Fourteen Goddess TempleFourteen Goddess Temple is a sacred temple which is located about 14 kms away from Agartala at a place which is known as the Old Agartala. The temple was built in honour of fourteen Gods and Goddesses which was built by King Krishna Manikya Debbarma of Tripura and these deities are ceremoniously worshipped during "Kharchi Puja". The Fourteen Goddess Temple is also popularly known as "Chaturdasha Temple". The temple is one the major places of interest in Agartala.

According to a local saying that one who visits Fourteen Goddess Temple in Tripura once, comes in Agartala fourteen times more. The architecture of this temple is a confluence of Bengali-Bankura style. The dome architecture around the temple reminds the traces of Buddhist culture in Tripura. This temple is also the famous site for "Kharchi Puja", which has evolved from a tribal festival. The festival attracts thousands of worshippers from all over Tripura every year in the month of July.

History of Establishment of Fourteen Goddess Temple
Agartala has much destruction but still attracts many visitors all-round the world. At the end of 12 year rule by Shamsher Gazi (1748-1760) the then king Krishna Manikya realized the vulnerability of Udaipur to predatory raids by brigands from the plain lands in Eastern Bengal and shifted the capital from Udaipur to "Puran Haveli" or old Agartala in the year 1760. It continued to be the capital till it was shifted to present Agartala town in the year 1838.

Deities at Fourteen Goddess Temple
As the name suggests, this temple is dedicated to 14 gods and goddesses, each of which is represented by his or her head only. The names of the fourteen deities are, "Lampra", "Akhatra", "Bikhatra", "Burasa", "Thumnairok", "Bonirok", "Sangroma", "Mwtaikotor", "Twima", "Songram", "Noksumwtai", "Mailuma", "Khuluma" and "Swkalmwtai".

How to Reach Fourteen Goddess Temple
The Fourteen Goddess Temple is located near to the capital city and has many bus services from Silchar, Guwahati, Karimganj and Shillong. Agartala Airport is the nearest airport. It is easily accessible by buses and taxis. The nearest rail service is from Kumarghat Railway Station. Several b-*us and taxis are easily available from both the airport as well as the rail station to reach the temple site.
