Prakash Amritraj is an Indian professional tennis player. He is right-handed and is a non-resident Indian player. He is the son of Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj. Prakash formerly represented India in tennis tournaments and the Davis Cup.
Early Life of Prakash Amritraj
He was born on October 2, 1983 in Los Angeles, California to Prakash Amritraj and Shyamala, a Sri Lankan Tamil. His father is an acclaimed former Indian tennis player who played at Wimbledon for 17 years and in the Davis Cup for 20 years. He is also the cousin of fellow tour pro Stephen Amritraj, whose father Anand was also into this sport. He has a brother named Vikram. Prakash majored in business from the University of Southern California.
Career of Prakash Amritraj
Initially, he played college tennis for the University of Southern California. Then in the year 2007, he participated and won three straight ITF Pro Circuit tournaments in India. He won the trophies by beating Karan Rastogi in all three finals.
Prakash played his first ATP Tour final on July 14, 2008. However, he lost to Fabrice Santoro from France in straight sets. He was not in the playing scene from August 2010 to August 2012. He came back to the court for the first time in just over two years. He returned to the court as a wildcard entrant in a qualifier at the 2012 Comerica Bank Challenger in Aptos, California. He faced Austin Krajicek and lost the first set. He won the second set although he had to retire mid-way through the third set.
