Gangotri Bhandari is a former Hockey player who represented the Women's Hockey team of India. She has exhibited her excellent Hockey skills in a number of tournaments at national as well as international levels including the Summer Olympics in 1980, Asian Games in 1982 and many others. In the year 1981, during the Asian Hockey Championship KYOTO Japan, she played as the wise captain for the Indian Women's Hockey team.
In the 1980 Moscow Olympics Gangotri Bhandari represented Women's Hockey team of India and the team acquired fourth position. She was also a part of 2nd World Hockey Championship at Vancouver, Canada, in the year 1979. In the year 1983 she played in the World Cup at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Achievements of Gangotri Bhandari
Gangotri Bhandari has been the recipient of a number of awards for her contributions. In 1982 she won the Manik Swarn Padak while in 1984 she received Rajat Jayanti Puraskar. She has also been the winner of the Eminent Youth Award in 1985, Aravali Award in 1989, Nahar Samman Puraskar in 1991 and Maharana Pratap Award in 1994. She also won Gold Medals at Asian Hockey Championship KYOTO Japan in 1981, Querdr Angular Tournament at Japan in 1981, Begam Rasool Tournament at Pune in 1982 and IX Asian Games at Delhi in 1982.
Personal Life of Gangotri Bhandari
Gangotri Bhandari was born on 13th August 1956 in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, to Mr. Kesar Singh Bhandari and Mrs. Ganeshi Devi. She has two siblings. In the year 1966 she shifted to Jaipur and developed a keen interest in Hockey which she pursued as a hobby in the school. Presently she resides with her family and works as the Chief Office Superintendent in the Jaipur division of NWR Railways.
