Chorwad Beach once served as a popular retreat for the Nawabs of Junagadh and was recognized as a symbol of leisure, relaxation and rejuvenation. The beach also hosts the renowned Chorwad Palace which was constructed by the emperors of the city. The palace presently also serves as the only beach palace resort of India. The palace was converted to a beach resort palace with the initiative of a Nawab of Junagadh, Mohabbat Khan. The architecture of the palace is an amalgam of Muslim, Italian and colonial features. The palace boasts its elegant interiors and balconies along with beautiful projecting porticos. Another tourist attraction of Chorwad Beach is the Kirti Mandir, located nearby, which was once the residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Currently it has been turned to a memorial museum which exhibits several artefacts associated with him. Daria Mahal is also situated nearby.
Chorwad Beach is not much safe for swimming but its serenity is immensely pleasing and is ideal for spending an invigorating time. A number of intriguing activities can be enjoyed in the beach such as fishing, boat riding and enjoying the rocky shores. Parasailing, skiing and scooting in the beach are also delightful.
Chorwad Beach is very popular among tourists for its natural beauty. Strolling along the beach in its moderate climate is very pleasing. The beach can be visited any time of the year but the best time to visit is the winter season, from October to March. Nearest railway station is located at Verangal and nearest airport is at Diu, located at a distance of 90 kilometres from the beach.
