Dr. Prem Chowdhry is a prominent name among the Indian social activists who works as an Indian social scientist, feminist, historian, critic of violence against couples refusing arranged marriages and Senior Academic Fellow at the Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. She is also a reputed scholar of gender studies and is esteemed as an authority on the social history and political economy of the Indian state Haryana. Dr. Prem Chowdhry is the daughter of noted educationist and a Member of Parliament, Hardwari Lal.
Dr. Prem Chowdhry is associated with the Centre for Women Studies and is the life member of the institution. She has also contributed to Centre for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, which is supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research. It is a unit of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library for advanced studies. She is the professional fellow of the University Grants Commission (India) and an alumna of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Dr. Prem Chowdhry is also a noted artist, renowned for being self taught. Her paintings are exhibited by the some of the most prestigious art galleries of India including India's National Academy of Fine Arts, the Lalit Kala Akademi and the National Gallery, India. She has begun exhibiting her paintings from the year 1970. Her art works mostly mirror the status and condition of women in the country. She has also authored a number of books and research papers.
