Geetika Jakhar is an Indian wrestler who has made India proud by winning the silver medal in the 63 kg category in Doha Asian Games in 2006. She has also won many national and international titles at a young age. Geetika was born on 18th August 1985 in Hisar
. She comes from a sports family and was encouraged by her father to pursue a career in sports. Geetika, a student of CRM Jat College, is also brilliant in academics. After the successful completion of her Bachelor of Arts
degree, she is currently pursuing her Masters in English.
Achievements of Geetika Jakhar
Geetika Jakhar has also won the gold medal in the 63 kg weight category during the Commonwealth Championship in Canada in 2006. She is also the winner of the silver medal in the 22nd senior Asian championship in Delhi
. She has been given the title Bharat Kesri and adjudged the best wrestler besides receiving the Bhim Award by the Haryana Government. Geetika Jakhar has also been recommended for the Arjuna Award
, the highest national honour in sports. She was successful in the 67 kg category of the junior Asian championship in Kazakhastan held in June 2007 and won the gold medal.
In the Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup tournament held in New Delhi from August 16th to August 19th, Geetika Jakhar became the winner amongst four hundred and fifty wrestlers from all over the country. The Chief Minister
of New Delhi honoured her with a cash award of Rupees 1 lakh and a gold cup. Her main objective is to represent India at the Olympics.
