History of Anniyur The scriptures recovered from two temples, the Vishnu Temple and Shiva Temple, states that the village dates back to the 12th century. Both the temples serve as important landmarks of Anniyur. The first president of the village was Thiru Patchiyappa Mudaliyar. During his tenure the village developed considerably. He also served as the Secretary to the Farmers Cooperative Society. Economy of Anniyur The main source of income of the inhabitants of the village is agriculture. Earlier during the 1960's the primary occupation of the residents were making hand looms. However, with time the workers migrated to the towns to earn their living. Educational Institutions in Anniyur Anniyur has a low literacy rate. Not many schools and colleges have been established here. The government has set up two private engineering colleges here. Pilgrimage Centres in Anniyur Anniyur has two old temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The Vishnu temple was constructed by the minister of Krishna Devaraya and the Shiva temple was built by the rulers of the Pallava Dynasty.
