Ramakant Achrekar is an Indian cricket coach born in the year 1932 in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was very popular coach among young cricketers at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai. He had been selector of the Mumbai cricket team. He is a popular name in the domestic circuit in Indian cricket.
Achrekar's playing career was not as popular as his coaching career. He started playing in the year 1943. In 1945 he played club cricket for New Hind Sports Club. He also played for Young Maharashtra XI, Gul Mohar Mills and Bombay Port. He played in only one first-class match for all-India State Bank against Hyderabad in the Moin-ud-Dowla tournament in 1963-64.
The famous and successful cricketer who trained under Ramakant includes Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli. Sachin Tendulkarhappens to be most capped player and also leading run scorer in both ODI and Test matches. He was also the captain of the national team. Some other cricketers who have been under his training were Balwinder Sandhu, Chandrakant Pandit, Pravin Amre, Ajit Agarkar and Sanjay Bangar.
