The popular comics magazine was published and distributed by S.Chand and Company Ltd, in New Delhi, one of the most prominent publishers of Engineering and technical books in India. The Chitra Bharti Kathamala experienced modest success and the comics line was published once in every fortnight with a total of 24 issues in a particular year. Chitra Bharti Kathamala was published both in English and Hindi languages by S.Chand and Company. But the publishing of Chitra Bharti Kathamala was ended during the late 1980s, due to falling demand and preference of western comics by Indian comics readers.

Chitra Bharti Kathamala had its head office at S.Chand and Company Ltd in Raamnagar, New Delhi. At present the publishing house produces and distributes educational books. The comics magazine published several stories in varied genres like fairytales, stories about knights and princesses, funny and humourous stories, socially relevant stories, historical and mythological characters, details of the historical monuments and events and other general stories. Apart from these, there were also several characters that were regularly featured in Chitra Bharti Kathamala and were much liked by the readers of the magazine.
