The SUT Academy of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram is working on achieving certain aims and objectives and its principal objective is to mould a new generation of doctors committed to excellence and compassion. The institute thinks that some of its students may become research scholars in the pursuit of new frontiers in medicine; and some other may become super specialists creating medical wonders. The institute also wants to ensure that the graduates of SUT College of Medicine would always retain their basic commitment, excellence in care and compassion for fellow human beings.

The SUT Academy of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram is mainly offering the undergraduate course of MBBS Degree to the students of Kerala. This is a 5 year course that is divided into Pre Clinical Course and a Clinical Course. The Pre Clinical Course is for 1 year and Clinical Course lasts for 4 years. The Clinical Course includes both the clinical and para clinical subjects and it is mandatory for the students to spend one year as a house physician, rotating through Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Community Medicine before obtaining his/her Graduate Degree in Medicine. The course is affiliated by the Kerala University and it would also be under the quality control monitoring of the Medical Council of India (MCI). The students desirous of getting admitted in MBBS course in the college are required to complete the 10+2 Higher Secondary Course (plus 2) or equivalent examination. They are required to pass the examination with minimum 50% marks in each of the Science subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The SUT Academy of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram has a large number of departments that help it in providing medical education and also in providing treatment. Some of the major departments include the department of Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology and ENT.
