St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN) was established by the St. John`s National Academy of Health Sciences on 1st July, 1980, as a School of Nursing. The institution was upgraded to a College of Nursing on 25th September, 1989. The college is situated in the city of Bangaluru and is considered to be one of the leading medical institutions in the state of Karnataka. The college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru and also to the Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board, Bangaluru.

St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru has remained steadfast to the one central commitment of providing a balanced comprehensive nursing education and clinical skills, since its inception. The college is aimed at producing intellectually enlightened, morally upright, spiritually inspired, emotionally balanced and socially committed nurses. The college mainly offers 4 full-time nursing courses to the students of Karnataka. The courses include General Nursing and Midwifery, which is recognized by the Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board (KSDNEB). The other three courses like Basic B.Sc Nursing, Post Certificate B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc. Nursing are recognised by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru.

St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru offers the M.Sc Nursing course in the disciplines like Medical Surgical, Community Health, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Psychiatric Nursing. The college also offers some other courses in collaboration with the Nursing service of the hospital and the Council of Catholic Women of India (CCWI). These courses include the Nursing Aides Course and a course in Geriatric Health, respectively.

St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru follows certain rules and regulations, while admitting students in various courses. For getting admission in General Nursing and Midwifery, in the college, the candidates are required to have passed the two-year Pre-university examination or its equivalent. The candidates should get at least 45% of marks in the optional subjects and the college would give preference to the students, having Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. Only the unmarried female candidates can apply for the course and they should have good health and good moral character, as well. The candidates are also required to be aged between 17-28 years. The candidates, who are Religious Sisters, should complete one year after their first religious profession.

In order to get admitted in the undergraduate degree courses like Basic B Sc Nursing in St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru, the candidates are required to have passed the two-year Pre-university examination conducted by the Pre-university Education Board in the State of Karnataka. The candidates, who have passed any other examination considered as equivalent thereto by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), and have scored not less than 50%s of marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, are also considered eligible for admission. However, for the students belonging to the SC/ST/OBS category, the required percentage of marks comes down to 40%, instead of 50%. In this case also, only the female candidates, having good health and good moral character, can apply for admission. The candidates should be aged at least 17 years and below 35 years, at the time of admission. The candidates, who are Religious Sisters, should have completed one year after their first religious profession.

The students desirous to get admitted in the Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing course in St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru, are required to have passed the two-year Pre-university examination conducted by the Pre-university Education Board in the State of Karnataka. The candidates passing any other examination considered as equivalent thereto by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), are also eligible for admission in the course. The candidates should have done (and successfully completed) the General Nursing & Midwifery course in a recognized School of Nursing, and should possess certificates of the course, as well. The candidates are required to be registered under the State Nursing Council (SNC) and should also be a member of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI). Apart from having minimum two years experience in a hospital or in Community Health Nursing after completion of the General Nursing & Midwifery course, the candidates are also required to be female, and of good health and good moral character. Their age should not be more than 40 years.

According to the rules and regulations of St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru, the candidates wanting to get admitted in the Postgraduate Degree Courses, are required to have passed the B.Sc. Nursing degree course of Rajiv Gandhi/Bangalore University. The candidates, who have passed the degree course from any of the other universities considered as equivalent thereto by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), are also considered eligible for admission. The candidates should have scored at least 55% marks in the first attempt at the Basic B.Sc./Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing examination. However, the required percentage of marks comes down to 50% in case of the students, coming from SC/ST category.

The candidates are also required to have at least one year`s experience in any clinical area, either in a hospital or in a community, to get admitted in the Postgraduate Degree Courses in St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru. The college gives preference to the candidates, who have at least 6 months of experience in the area of clinical specialty which they are intending to select for Post Graduation. However, in case of Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing graduates, experience after their P.C. B.Sc. Nursing course is not compulsory. The candidates are required to be registered under the State Nursing Council (SNC) and only the female candidates, having good health and good moral character, are considered eligible for admission in the courses.

St. John`s College of Nursing (SJCN), Bangaluru has a large number of departments that helps the college in imparting Nursing education to the students of Karnataka. Some of the major departments include the department of Nursing Administration and Education, Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing, Psychiatry Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing and Fundamentals of Nursing.
