Academy of Medical Sciences, Kannur, KeralaThe Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME) is a renowned medical institution in the state of Kerala. The institute is situated in Pariyaram, in the district of Kannur in Kerala and it came into existence on 30th September, 1994. The college was established by Sri K. Karunakaran and it has a 300-bedded associated hospital, with all the modern facilities. The then Union Minister for Health, Mr. A. R. Anthuley unveiled the Medical College and Hospital on 3rd January 1996.

The Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Kannur started its operations as a self-financing medical college under the supervision of co-operative sector in India. The medical college is accredited to the Indian Medical Council (IMC) and the University is armed with the best of the equipments and faculties. ACME believes in keeping the students abreast of all the developments taking place in the medical world and it always fosters a healthy ambiance for the students. The institute always tries to enable its students to attain mastery over their discipline by a perfect blend of clinical requirements and academics.

The Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Kannur has a dental college within its premises and the college offers the undergraduate course of Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS), to the students of Kerala. The State Government of Kerala takes each and every decision related to the admission procedure for the course. The dental college is affiliated to the Kannur University and is also approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI). There is also a Pharmacy institution named the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science in ACME, which offers Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) course. The admission procedure for the course is also decided by the State Government of Kerala.

The Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Kannur also has a general medical college, named the Priyaram Medical College (PMC). The college offers the undergraduate course of MBBS and the admission procedure for this course is decided by the State Government of Kerala, as well. Affiliated to the Kannur University and approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI), the college also offers a Diploma in National Board (DNB) course to the students. ACME admits the students in various courses on the basis of entrance exams conducted by the National Board.

Apart from the above mentioned courses, the Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Kannur offers some other courses, as well. The courses include the DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology Course) for which, the candidates are required to have passed class 12 with 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT) course is also offered by the ACME. For getting admission in this course; the students are required to have passed class 12 with 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Another course offered by ACME is the Diploma in Cardio Vascular Technology (DCVT) and this course requires the students to pass class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There is also another course that ACME offers and this course is named as Hospital Assistant`s Diploma Course. The students desirous of getting admitted in this course are required to have passed class 12 with 40% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Apart from the MBBS course, the ACME admits students in all the other courses strictly on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam and interview.

The Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Kannur has a College of Nursing that offers the Bachelors of Nursing course, to the students. The college admits the students on the basis of decision, made by the State Government of Kerala. On the other hand, the School of Nursing, under the ACME, Kannur offers the course named General Nursing and Midwifery. Only the female candidates can apply for admission in the course and the school has got recognition from the State Government of Kerala.

The Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Kannur also has hospitals that have all the important departments, equipped with all the necessary technological equipments. Some of the major departments include the department of Chest Diseases, ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy, General Surgery, Neuro Medicine, Paediatric Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Urology, Cancer & Radiotherapy, Nephrology, Cardiology and the department of Radio Diagnosis.
