The teams of Baroda and Uttar Pradesh became the toppers in the Elite Group B of Ranji Trophy, 2005-06.

The Elite Group B of the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 saw the participation of 7 teams that were coming from different parts of India. All the teams played quite well in the previous edition of the tournament and that is why the tournament organisers, BCCI put them in the Elite Group B. Most of the teams were representing various Indian states in the most prestigious domestic cricket tournament in India and they included the likes of Andhra, Baroda, Punjab, Services, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Hyderabad. The teams played against each other in the group matches with the same view of becoming one of the top two teams in the group so that they could secure a berth in the knock out level of the Elite Group. The teams like Baroda and Uttar Pradesh eventually became successful to do so from the Elite Group B, by earning the highest points from the group matches. They also competed with the top two teams of Elite Group A in the knock out level for winning the coveted championship title.

The teams of Andhra and Baroda played against each other in the first of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 and the two teams played the match at Anantapur from 23-26 November, 2005. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Baroda team 2 points for the match. The Andhra team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the group saw the teams of Punjab and Services playing against each other at Mohali from 23-26 November, 2005. The Punjab team earned 4 points from the match by clinching a victory of 6 wickets and the Services team remained pointless in the match. The Uttar Pradesh and Haryana teams appeared in the next match of the group and the match took place at Kanpur from 23-26 November, 2005. The Haryana team won the match by a margin of 40 runs for earning 4 points and the Haryana team remained pointless in the match.

The Andhra and Hyderabad teams were involved in the fourth of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 and the match was held at Anantapur from 01-04 December, 2005. The drawn match saw the Hyderabad team earning 2 points and the Andhra team remaining pointless in it. Then, the teams of Punjab and Haryana met with each other in the next match of the group and the two teams played the match at Mohali from 01-04 December, 2005. The Haryana team earned 2 points from the drawn match and the Punjab team failed to earn any points. The next match of the group involved the teams like Uttar Pradesh and Baroda and the match took place at Ghaziabad from 01-04 December, 2005. The winner of the match was the Baroda team with a huge margin of an innings and 93 runs and the team also earned 5 points from it. The Uttar Pradesh team could not earn even a single point from the match.

The Baroda team appeared in the seventh of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 also and this time, it played against the Haryana team at Sirsa from 09-12 December, 2005. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Baroda team earned 2 points from it. However, the Haryana team failed to earn any points from the match. The Punjab team then played against the Hyderabad team in the next match of the group and the two teams played the match at Mohali from 09-12 December, 2005. Clinching a huge victory of an innings and 151 runs, the Punjab team earned 5 points from the match and the Hyderabad team remained pointless in the match. The next match of the group saw the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Services playing against each other Lucknow from 09-12 December, 2005. The drawn match saw the Uttar Pradesh team earning 2 points and the Services team remaining pointless in it.

The match between the teams of Hyderabad and Haryana was the tenth of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 and the two teams played the match at Hyderabad from 17-20 December, 2005. The match was a drawn one and the Hyderabad team earned 2 points from it. The Haryana team remained pointless in the match. The Services and Andhra teams then met with each other in the next match of the group and the match was held at Delhi from 17-20 December, 2005. The drawn match saw the Andhra team earning 2 points and the Services team remaining pointless. The Uttar Pradesh and Punjab teams appeared in the next match of the group and the match took place at Lucknow from 17-20 December, 2005. The match also remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Uttar Pradesh team 2 points for the match. The Punjab team could not earn any points from the match.

The Andhra team played against the Haryana team in the next match of the Elite Group A and the match was held at Anantapur from 25-28 December, 2005. The Andhra team clinched a victory of an innings and 45 runs in the match for earning 5 points and the Haryana team failed to earn any points from the match. Then, the teams of Baroda and Punjab appeared in the next match of the group and the two teams played the match at Baroda from 25-28 December, 2005. The Baroda team earned 4 points from the match by clinching a victory of 4 wickets and the Punjab team remained pointless in the match. The next match of the group saw the teams of Hyderabad and Services playing against each other at Secunderabad from 25-28 December, 2005. The match was won by the Hyderabad team with a margin of an innings and 138 runs to earn 5 points. However, the Services team could not earn even a single point from the match.

In the 16th of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06, the teams of Andhra and Punjab played against each other at Vishakhapatnam from 03-06 January, 2006. The Punjab team earned 2 points from the drawn match and the Andhra team remained pointless. The match between the teams of Services and Baroda was the next match in the Elite Group B and the match was held at Delhi from 03-06 January, 2006. The drawn match saw the Baroda team earning 2 points and the Services team remaining pointless in it. The Uttar Pradesh team then played against the Hyderabad team in the next match of the group and the math took place at Lucknow from 03-06 January, 2006. The Uttar Pradesh team clinched a huge victory of 10 wickets in the match to earn 5 points and the Hyderabad team remained pointless in the match.

The Uttar Pradesh team appeared in the 19th of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 also and this time, it played against the Andhra team at Anantapur from 10-13 January, 2006. The Uttar Pradesh became the winner of the match with a margin of 8 wickets foe earning 4 points and the Andhra team failed to earn any points from the match. Then, the teams of Baroda and Hyderabad played against each other in the next match of the group and the match took place at Baroda from 10-13 January, 2006. The winner of the match was the Baroda team with a good margin of 220 runs and the team also earned 4 points from the match. However, the Hyderabad team failed to earn any points from the match. The last of the Elite Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2005-06 involved the teams like Services and Haryana and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 10-13 January, 2006. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Haryana team 2 points for the match. The Services team remained pointless in the match.
