The Plate Group B of the Ranji Trophy, 2002-03 consisted of 6 teams that were selected from different parts of India. The teams were not representing any particular region of the country in the premium domestic cricket tournament of India and they included the likes of Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The teams competed with each other very hard with a view to become one of the top two teams in the group and they also gave their best efforts to secure a berth in the knock out level. The teams like Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka eventually became successful to do so from the group, as they earned the highest points from the group matches.

The Plate Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2002-03 started with the match between the teams of Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir and the match was held at Jamshedpur from 09-12 November, 2002. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and none of the teams could earn even a single point from the match. The teams of Haryana and Madhya Pradesh appeared in the second match of the group and the two teams played the match at Rohtak from 19-12 November, 2002. The Haryana team won the match with a margin of 103 runs to earn 8 points and the Madhya Pradesh team failed to earn any points from the match. The third match of the group was played between the teams of Maharashtra and Karnataka and the match took place at Pune from 09-12 November, 2002. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Karnataka team earned 1 point from it. The Maharashtra team remained pointless in the match.

The Bihar and Karnataka teams met with each other in the fourth of the Plate Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2002-03 and the match was held at Ranchi from 17-20 November, 2002. The Karnataka team earned 2 points from the match, by winning it with a margin of 8 wickets and the Bihar team remained pointless in it. The next match of the group saw the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana playing against each other at Jammu from 17-20 November, 2002. The match was won by the Haryana team with a margin of 7 wickets for earning 2 points and the Jammu & Kashmir team remained pointless. The teams of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra were involved in the next match of the group and the two teams played the match at Indore from 17-20 November, 2002. The Madhya Pradesh team earned 2 points from the match by clinching a victory of 8 wickets and the Maharashtra team failed to earn any points from the match.

The Maharashtra team appeared in the seventh of the Plate Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2002-03 also and this time, it played against the Haryana team at Rohtak from 27-30 November, 2002. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Maharashtra team earned 1 point from it, while the Haryana team remained pointless. The Karnataka team then played against the Jammu & Kashmir team in the next match of the group and the match took place at Bangalore from 27-30 November, 2002. The Karnataka team clinched a huge victory of an innings and 321 runs in the match for earning 3 points and the Jammu & Kashmir team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the Plate Group B saw the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar playing against each other at Indore from 27-30 November, 2002. The Madhya Pradesh team earned 3 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 38 runs and the Bihar team remained pointless in the match.

In the tenth of the Plate Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2002-03, the teams of Haryana and Bihar played against each other at Gurgaon from 19-22 December, 2002. The winner of the match was the Haryana team with a margin of an innings and 48 runs and the team also earned 3 points from the match. The Bihar team could not earn even a single point from the match. The next match of the group involved the teams like Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka and the two teams played the match at Gwalior from 19-22 December, 2002. The Madhya Pradesh team earned 1 point from the drawn match and the Karnataka team remained pointless. The Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir teams met with each other in the next match of the group and the match was held at Pune from 19-22 December, 2002. The Maharashtra team earned 2 points from the match by winning it with a margin of 5 wickets and the Jammu & Kashmir team failed to earn any points from the match.

The Bihar and Maharashtra teams featured in the next match of the Plate Group B and the match was held at Jamadoba from 28-31 December, 2002. The Maharashtra team clinched a victory of an innings and 283 runs for earning 3 points and the Bihar team once again failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the group was played between the teams of Haryana and Karnataka and the match took place at Faridabad from 28-31 December, 2002. The match was won by the Karnataka team with a margin of an innings and 47 runs and the team earned 3 points from the match. However, the Haryana team could not earn any points from the match. The teams of Madhya Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir appeared in the last of the Plate Group B matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2002-03 and the two teams played the match at Indore from 28-31 December, 2002. The Madhya Pradesh team earned 3 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 121 runs and the Jammu & Kashmir team remained pointless in the match.
