The Punjab, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir teams earned the highest points from the North Zone league matches.

In the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01, 6 teams competed with each other and displayed their cricketing skills and performances for advancing to the next level of the tournament. All the teams were the regular participants of the premium domestic cricket tournament in India and most of them were representing different states from the Northern region of India. The teams included the likes of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Services, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi and Haryana and all of them tried their best to claim one of the top spots in the zone. The teams also gave their best efforts for to get a promotion to the knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01. However, only the teams like Punjab, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir could eventually do so from the North Zone, as they earned the highest total of 40, 29 and 24 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches.

The teams of Delhi and Services appeared in the first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01 and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 30 October-02 November, 2000. The Delhi team played very well in the match and clinched a victory of 168 runs for earning 8 points from the match. The Services team failed to earn any points from the match. The second match of the zone involved the teams like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and the match was held at Una from 30 October-02 November, 2000. Playing very well in the match, the Punjab team clinched a victory of an innings and 235 runs to earn 8 points from the match. However, the Himachal Pradesh team could not earn even a single point from the match. The match between the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana was also held during the same timing from 30 October-02 November, 2000 and the match took place at Jammu. The winner of the match was the Jammu & Kashmir team with a huge margin of 9 wickets to earn 8 points and the Haryana team remained pointless in the match.

The fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01 was held at Jullundur between the teams of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir and the match was played from 05-08 November, 2000. The match was won by the Punjab team with a wonderful margin of an innings and 193 runs and the team also earned 8 points from the match. The Jammu & Kashmir team could not earn any points from the match. The Haryana and Delhi teams then played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Gurgaon from 05-08 November, 2000. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Delhi and Haryana teams 5and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Services and Himachal Pradesh teams also played against each other during the same timing from 05-08 November, 2000 and the two teams played the match at Delhi. The Himachal Pradesh and Services teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration.

The teams of Delhi and Himachal Pradesh played against each other in the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01 and the match was held at Delhi from 11-14 November, 2000. The Delhi team earned 8 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 54 runs and the Himachal Pradesh team remained pointless in the match. The Jammu & Kashmir and Services teams then met with each other in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Jammu from 11-14 November, 2000. The Jammu & Kashmir team played very well in this match also and clinched a victory of 7 wickets for earning 8 points from the match. The Services team failed to earn any points from the match. The teams of Punjab and Haryana and the two teams played the match at Chandigarh from 11-14 November, 2000. The Punjab team earned 8 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 123 runs and the Haryana team failed to earn any points from the match.

The Services team then played against the Punjab team in the tenth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01 and the match was held at Delhi from 17-20 November, 2000. Winning the match by a margin of an innings and 166 runs, the Punjab team earned 8 points from the match, while the Services team remained pointless. The match between the teams of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana was the next match of the zone and the match was held at Mandi from 17-20 November, 2000. The Haryana and Himachal Pradesh teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match. The Jammu & Kashmir team then played against the Delhi team in the next match of the North Zone, which was held at Jammu from 17-20 November, 2000. The Delhi team thrashed the Jammu & Kashmir team by a huge margin of 10 wickets for earning 8 points from the match and the Jammu & Kashmir team remained pointless.

The next match of the zone saw the teams of Services and Haryana playing against each other at Delhi from 23-26 November, 2000. The Haryana team earned 5 points and Services earned 3 points from the drawn match. The Delhi and Punjab teams met with each other in the next match of the North Zone and the match took place at Delhi from 23-26 November, 2000. The Punjab team played wonderfully in the match for clinching a victory of 199 runs to earn 8 points and the Delhi team remained pointless in the match. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2000-01 involved the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and the match was held at Jammu from 23-26 November, 2000. The Jammu & Kashmir team played well in the closely contested match and eventually clinched a victory with a narrow margin of only 4 wickets for earning 8 points from the match. The Himachal Pradesh team failed to earn any points from the match.
