The toppers in the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 were the Punjab, Delhi and Haryana teams.

The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 comprised of 6 teams that had been playing in the tournament for the previous several editions. Most of the teams were representing various states from the Northern region of India in the most popular and premium domestic cricket tournament of India. The teams included the likes of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana and Services and they played against each other for claiming the top spot in the zone. According to the rules and regulations of the Ranji Trophy, only the top three teams from each zone were promoted to the Super League stage of the tournament. The teams like Punjab, Delhi and Haryana became those three teams from the North zone as they earned the highest points from the league matches. The Punjab, Delhi and Haryana teams earned total of 34, 32 and 27 points, respectively, at the end of the zonal level league matches.

The North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 started with the match between the teams of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and the two teams played the match at Mohali from 24-27 October, 1999. The Punjab team played very well in the match and won quite comfortably with a margin of 196 runs for earning 8 points from it. The Himachal Pradesh team failed to earn any points from the match. The Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir teams met with each other in the second match of the zone and the match was held at Faridabad from 24-27 October, 1999. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The third match of the North Zone was played between the teams of Delhi and Services and this match was also held during the same timing from 24-27 October, 1999. The match was held at Delhi and it saw the Delhi team clinching a victory of an innings and 45 runs to earn 8 points. The Services team remained pointless in the match.

The Services team appeared in the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 also and this time, it played against the Punjab team at Mohali from 31 October-03 November, 1999. The winner of the match was the Punjab team with a margin of an innings and 173 runs and the team also earned 8 points from the match. However, the Services team failed to earn even a single point from the match. The Himachal Pradesh team then played against the Jammu & Kashmir team in the next match of the zone, which took place at Chamba from 31 October-03 November, 1999. The drawn match saw the Himachal Pradesh team earning 5 points and Jammu & Kashmir earning 3 points from it. The match between the teams of Delhi and Haryana was also organised during the same timing from 31 October-03 November, 1999 and the two teams played the match at Delhi. The Delhi and Haryana teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the specified period of time.

The teams of Delhi and Himachal Pradesh appeared in the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 and the match was held at Mandi from 06-09 November, 1999. The Delhi team crushed the Himachal Pradesh team by a huge margin of 10 wickets for earning 8 points from the match and the Himachal Pradesh team remained pointless in the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Haryana and Services and the two teams played the match at Gurgaon from 06-09 November, 1999. The match was won by the Haryana team with a margin of an innings and 94 runs to earn 8 points and the Services team failed to earn any points from the match. The Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir teams played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Ludhiana from 06-09 November, 1999. The match saw the Punjab team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 288 runs to earn 8 points and it also saw the Jammu & Kashmir team remaining pointless.

The Punjab team then played against the Delhi team in the tenth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 and the two teams played the match at Ludhiana from 13-16 November, 1999. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Punjab and Delhi teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Services and Jammu & Kashmir teams were involved in the next match of the North Zone and the match was held at New Delhi from 13-16 November, 1999. The Jammu & Kashmir team played well in the match for clinching a victory to earn 8 points and the Services team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the zone saw the teams of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh playing against each other at Rohtak from 13-16 November, 1999. The Haryana team earned 8 points from the match by winning it with a margin of 248 runs; however, the Himachal Pradesh team could not earn any points from the match.

The Himachal Pradesh team appeared in the next match of the North Zone also and this time, it played against the Services team at Una from 20-23 November, 1999. The Services and Himachal Pradesh teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match. The teams of Haryana and Punjab played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Gurgaon from 20-23 November, 1999. The drawn match saw the Punjab team earning 5 points and Haryana earning 3 points from it. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 involved the teams of Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 20-23 November, 1999. The Delhi team won the match by a good margin of an innings and 3 runs for earning 8 points and the Jammu & Kashmir team remained pointless in the match.
