The teams were divided into five different zones and they played against each other both in the zonal level and then in the knock out level for winning the coveted championship title.
Ranji Trophy, 1992-93, Central Zone League Matches: 5 teams played against each other under the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1992-93, the premium domestic cricket tournament in India. The teams were mainly representing different states from the Central region of India and they included the likes of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Railways. All the teams were the regular participants in the tournament and they competed with each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. The teams also vied for getting a chance in the knock out level of the tournament, however, only the Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh teams eventually became successful to do so. The Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh teams earned total of 76 and 64 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches and entered into the knock out level from the Central Zone.

The tournament is well famous for being the premium domestic cricket tournament in India and the teams playing under the East Zone of the tournament were mainly representing different states from the Eastern region of India. The teams included the likes of Tripura, Orissa, Bengal, Assam and Bihar and all of them played against each other with the sole objective of becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. The teams also tried their best to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament so that they could vie for the championship title. However, only the teams like Bengal and Assam eventually became successful to do so from the zone, as they earned total of 91 and 54 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches.
Ranji Trophy, 1992-93, North Zone League Matches: Five teams played against each other under the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1992-93, one of the leading domestic cricket tournaments in India. The zone saw one of its regular participants; the Jammu & Kashmir team not playing in the edition. However all the other regular teams like Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Services and Punjab participated in the league matches. The participating teams in the zone were mainly coming from the Northern region of India and they played against each other for claiming the top spot in the zone. All the teams also gave their best efforts for getting a chance for competing in the knock out level of the tournament, however, the teams like Punjab and Delhi could eventually do so from the zone. The Punjab and Delhi teams earned total of 68 and 64 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches and they also competed with the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level for the championship title.

The tournament is quite famous for being one of the most popular domestic cricket tournaments in India. The teams that participated in the tournament under the South Zone were mainly representing different states from the Southern region of India and they included the likes of Hyderabad, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Kerala and Karnataka. The teams played against each other in the zonal level for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone and they also tried their best to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament. However, only the teams like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu could eventually do so from the zone and they entered into the knock out level of the tournament.

Though all the teams gave their best efforts for securing a birth in the knock out level of the tournament, only the teams like Bombay and Baroda eventually became successful to do so from the West Zone. The teams earned the highest points from the zonal level league matches and they also competed with the top teams of the other teams in the knock out level for winning the coveted championship title.
Ranji Trophy, 1992-93, Knock Out Matches: The organisers of the Ranji Trophy, 1992-93, BCCI changed the rule of knock out level in this edition to some extent. The BCCI allowed the top two teams from each zone to enter into the knock out level of the tournament, according to the previous rules. It also allowed the top four teams among all the other teams of the five zones to compete in the knock out level. As a result of the new rule, there were a number of 14 teams played against each other in the knock out matches of the Ranji Trophy, 1992-93. The teams included the likes of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Baroda, Hyderabad, Bombay, Bihar, Maharashtra, Railways, Punjab, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The teams took part in the Pre-Quarter-Finals, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final match of the tournament and the Punjab team was eventually successful to win the championship title.
