Vechoor Thankamani Pillai was a great star of Tullal. He was born in Vechoor, a village in Kottayam district, Kerala in 1910. Vechoor Thankamani Pillai learnt all three forms of Tullal. The three forms can be mentioned as Ottan, Parayan, and Sitangan. He learnt under Kuttan Menon in nearby Parippu village. Vechoor Thankamani Pillai first performed in 1930 at the Edayazham Subramania temple, and subsequently at innumerable temples across Kerala. Considered the finest guru of Kalakkatu Kunchan Nambiyar's Tullal style, Vechoor Thankamani Pillai in turn imparted the tradition to many students.
