The next match saw the teams of Andhra and Kerala playing against each other at Vijayawada from 09-11 December, 1978. The clash between the teams of Hyderabad and Kerala took place at Hyderabad in the next match of the zone from 15-17 December, 1978. The seventh of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1978-79 saw a battle between the teams of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka at Madras from 23-25 December, 1978. The match remained drawn during the stipulated period of time and the match officials awarded both the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka teams 2 points each for the match. The match between the teams of Andhra and Hyderabad was also held during the same timing from 23-25 December, 1978 at Kakinada. The Hyderabad team showed a wonderful performance in the match and clinched a huge victory of 10 wickets to earn 8 points from the match. The Hyderabad team then played against the Tamil Nadu team in the next match of the zone at Hyderabad from 20-22 January, 1979.
