Ranji Trophy 1976-77, Central Zone League Matches: The Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, all-coming from the Central region of India. The teams that played against each other under this zone included the likes of Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Railways, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. They competed against each other in the league matches for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone and also to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament. However, the teams like Railways and Rajasthan eventually became successful to get into the knock out level of the tournament from the Central Zone. Ranji Trophy 1976-77, East Zone League Matches: There were a number of 4 teams participated under the East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 and all the regular teams were representing the Eastern region of India. The teams were made from different Eastern Indian states and they included the likes of Assam, Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. The regular participants of the tournament played against each other first in the zonal level and then, the best two teams of the zone got a promotion to the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Bengal and Bihar once again became the toppers in the East Zone and they competed against the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level for the championship title. Ranji Trophy 1976-77, North Zone League Matches: The North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 saw a huge competition between the 5 teams of Delhi, Services, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana. All the teams were from the Northern region of India and they tried their best to become one of the top two teams in the zone. The main reason behind their this endeavour was to get a chance for competing with the top two teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament and vying for the championship title. The teams like Delhi and Haryana eventually became successful to do so from the North Zone. Ranji Trophy 1976-77, South Zone League Matches: The teams that played against each other under the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 were mainly coming from the Southern region of India. There were a number of 5 teams in the South Zone and all of them were the regular participants in the tournament. The teams included the likes of Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Kerala, Hyderabad and Karnataka and all of them vied for getting a place in the knock out level of the tournament. However, only the teams like Karnataka and Hyderabad became the representatives of the South Zone in the knock out level of the tournament. Ranji Trophy 1976-77, West Zone League Matches: The West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 saw the participation of a number of 5 teams, all the regular ones coming from the Western region of India. The teams included the likes of Gujarat, Baroda, Bombay, Maharashtra and Saurashtra and they were representing different states of Western India. The teams first competed with each other in the zonal level for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone and then the top two teams went on to play in the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Bombay and Baroda became successful to secure a place in the knock out level from the West Zone. The two toppers played against the toppers of the other zones in the knock out level, for the championship title. Ranji Trophy 1976-77, Knock out Matches: After the completion of all the matches in the zonal level of the tournament, the top teams form all the five zones started playing the knock out matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77. There were a number of 10 teams played against each other in the Pre-Quarter-Finals, Quarterfinals, Semi-Finals and Final match of the tournament and all of them were trying to win the championship title, through these matches. The teams that played in the knock out matches included the likes of Bengal, Bombay, Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, Railways, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Delhi. However, it was the Bombay team that eventually became successful to win the champions' trophy in the tournament, for yet another time. |
