There was a clash between the teams of Assam and Bengal in the fifth match of the East Zone and the match took place at Jorhat from 21-22 December, 1974. The Bengal team played extraordinarily in this match and thrashed the Assam team by a huge margin of an innings and 282 runs for earning 8 valuable points from the match. The Bengal team appeared in the last of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1974-75 also and this time, it played against the other very powerful team of the zone, the Bihar team.
