The East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1974-75 saw no change in the list of the participating teams, as all the four regular teams took part in this edition of the tournament. The teams included the likes of Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Orissa and they competed against each other in the league matches for claiming the top spot in the zone. According to the rules and regulations of the tournament, the top two teams of each zone got the permission to compete in the knock out level of the tournament and the Bengal and Bihar team were the two teams that got this chance, from the East Zone.
The first of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1974-75 was played between the teams of Bihar and Orissa at Jamshedpur from 29 November-01 December, 1974. The match was won by the Bihar team with a huge margin of an innings and 150 runs and the team earned the entire 9 points from the match, as well. The second match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Assam and Orissa at Jorhat from 06-08 December, 1974. The match saw the Orissa team winning by a good margin of 117 runs and earning 8 valuable points from it, as well.
The teams of Bihar and Assam played against each other in the third of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1974-75 and the match was held at Jorhat from 13-15 December, 1974. The Bihar team played brilliantly in the match and clinched a huge victory of 319 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it. The next match of the East Zone saw a battle between the teams of Bengal and Orissa at Calcutta from 13-15 December, 1974. The Bengal team started the tournament on a positive note, as it won this match with a good margin of 52 runs and earned 8 valuable points from it.
There was a clash between the teams of Assam and Bengal in the fifth match of the East Zone and the match took place at Jorhat from 21-22 December, 1974. The Bengal team played extraordinarily in this match and thrashed the Assam team by a huge margin of an innings and 282 runs for earning 8 valuable points from the match. The Bengal team appeared in the last of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1974-75 also and this time, it played against the other very powerful team of the zone, the Bihar team. The two teams locked their horns together at Calcutta from 10-12 January, 1975 and the drawn match saw the Bengal and Bihar teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively from it.
