The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 saw a decrease in its participating teams, as the number came down to 5 than that of 6 in the previous few editions. The team of Jammu & Kashmir could not participate in the tournament due to some unavoidable reasons and as a result, the teams like Southern Punjab, Delhi, Services, Railways and Northern Punjab played against each other in the North Zone. The teams first competed with each other in the zonal level and then they played against the top teams of the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament. Though all of them tried to get into the knock out level, only the teams like Services and Railways became successful to do so from the North Zone.
The first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 was played between the teams of Southern Punjab and Services at Patiala from 02-04 December, 1967. The match was declared as a drawn one by the match officials and none of the teams could earn any points from it. The next match of the North Zone saw a clash between the teams of Northern Punjab and Delhi and the match was held at Amritsar from 02-04 December, 1967. This match was also another drawn match, as declared by the match officials. The Northern Punjab team then played against the Services team in the next match at Ludhiana from 06-08 December, 1967. The match saw the Services team winning by a margin of 5 wickets and getting a good start in the tournament.
The teams of Southern Punjab and Delhi then clashed with each other in the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 and the match was held at Patiala from 06-08 December, 1967. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials divided the points between the two teams. In the next match of the North Zone, there was a battle between the teams of Services and Delhi and the match was held at Delhi from 11-13 December, 1967. The Services team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of 8 wickets against the Delhi team. The next match of the zone involved the teams of Railways and Northern Punjab and the match took place at Delhi from 11-13 December, 1967. The Railways team played very well in the match and got a good start in the tournament by winning it with a margin of 88 runs.
The match between the teams of Railways and Southern Punjab was the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 and the match was played at Delhi from 15-17 December, 1967. The Railways team showed a very good performance in this match also and won it by a big margin of 8 wickets to get into an advantageous position in the league point table. The next match saw a clash between the two teams from Punjab, the Southern Punjab and the Northern Punjab and the match took place at Ferozepur from 19-21 December, 1967. However, the match could not yield any fruit for the teams, as it was declared as a drawn one by the match officials. The ninth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 was played between the teams of Delhi and Railways and the match took place at Delhi from 21-23 December, 1967. This match was also another drawn one and the points were divided between the two teams. The last match of the North Zone involved the teams like Services and Railways and the match that held at Delhi from 26-28 December, 1967, also remained drawn during the stipulated duration.
