The Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 saw the participation of a number of 22 teams, 2 less than the previous edition of the tournament. Though the number of teams was decreased, the tournament was a successful one and the teams from all over India came and participated in the tournament, being divided into five different zones. The teams that participated in the tournament included the likes of Andhra, Assam, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Bombay, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Northern Punjab, Orissa, Railways, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Southern Punjab, Services and the Vidarbha.

Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 Central Zone League Matches: The Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 was comprised of only three teams, as the team of Uttar Pradesh failed to participate in the tournament due to some unavoidable reason. The teams that participated in the Central Zone of the tournament included the likes of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha and the Madhya Pradesh became the topper among the teams in the Central Zone. The team also got a promotion in the knock out level of the tournament. The first of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 involved the teams of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and the match was played at Jaipur from 11-13 November, 1967. The match saw the Madhya Pradesh team winning by a margin of 2 wickets and getting a very good start in the tournament. The teams of Rajasthan and Vidarbha played the second match of the Central Zone at Jaipur from 18-20 November, 1967. The Rajasthan recovered from its first match defeat and played well in this match and clinched a victory of 9 wickets over the Vidarbha team. The last of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 saw a clash between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha and the match was held at Nagpur from 25-26 November, 1967. The Madhya Pradesh won the match by 5 wickets and secured a place in the knock out level of the tournament from the Central Zone.

Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 East Zone League Matches: The East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 saw the same regular four teams participating with each other for a place in the knock out level of the tournament. The teams included the likes of Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Orissa and though all of them tried hard to become the toppers of the zone, the teams like Bengal and Bihar once again got into the knock out level of the tournament from the East Zone.

Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 North Zone League Matches: The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 saw a decrease in its participating teams, as the number came down to 5 than that of 6 in the previous few editions. The team of Jammu & Kashmir could not participate in the tournament due to some unavoidable reasons and as a result, the teams like Southern Punjab, Delhi, Services, Railways and Northern Punjab played against each other in the North Zone. The teams first competed with each other in the zonal level and then they played against the top teams of the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament. Though all of them tried to get into the knock out level, only the teams like Services and Railways became successful to do so from the North Zone.

Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 South Zone League Matches: The South Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 was comprised of the same regular 5 teams that were playing in the tournament in the previous few editions. There was no change in the team list of the zone and the teams that participated in the tournament under this zone included the likes of Andhra, Madras, Mysore, Hyderabad and Kerala. All the teams tried their best to beat the other teams and become one of the top two teams in the zone and also to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament.

Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 West Zone League Matches: The West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, all coming from the Western region of India and all the regular participants in the tournament. The teams that participated in the tournament under the West Zone included the likes of Saurashtra, Bombay, Baroda, Maharashtra and Gujarat and they competed with each other for getting a chance to play in the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Bombay and Baroda became the toppers in the zone and also secured a birth in the knock out level of the tournament.

Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 Knock out Matches: The knock out matches of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 saw a huge contest between the top teams of all the five zones and the teams played against each other for winning the championship trophy. There were a number of 5 top teams that played against each other in the Quarter-Final, Semi-Finals and Final match of the tournament, however, the ultimate result of the tournament was the same. The Bombay team won the trophy once again, this time-sharing with the Madras team.
