Bombay won the trophy again, in spite of some tough challenges from the other teams.

There were a number of 24 teams participated in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 and the teams came from all over India. The organisers of the tournament, BCCI divided the teams into five different zones that were constituted mainly depending on the geographical areas of India. All the teams competed with each other in the zonal and knock out levels for winning the prestigious and honourable Ranji Trophy title. The teams that participated in the tournament included the likes of Andhra, Assam, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Bombay, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Northern Punjab, Orissa, Railways, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Southern Punjab, Services, Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha.

Ranji Trophy 1966-67 Central Zone League Matches: Comprised of 4 teams, the Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 saw a tough battle between the teams that were coming from the Central region of India. The name of the teams were like Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and all of them played some good cricket in the zonal level in their endeavour to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament. However, the teams like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh became the toppers in the zone and went on to the knock out level of the tournament for competing with the top teams from the other zones.

Ranji Trophy 1966-67 East Zone League Matches: There was no change in the team list of the East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, as all the four teams that participated in the previous editions of the tournament, participated in this edition also. The teams like Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Orissa had been playing the Ranji Trophy for almost several years and they appeared in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 also. They played against each other for reaching to the knock out level of the tournament, however, only the teams like Bengal and Bihar could do so from the East Zone.

Ranji Trophy 1966-67 North Zone League Matches: The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 was comprised of a number of 6 teams, just like the previous editions of the tournament. There was no change in the teams list of the zone and the teams like Delhi, Southern Punjab, Services, Railways, Northern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir played against each other in the league matches of the zone. All the teams tried their best to get an entry into the knock out level of the tournament, however, only the teams like Railways and Services eventually became successful to do so from the North Zone.

Ranji Trophy 1966-67 South Zone League Matches: The South Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, including the likes of Hyderabad, Madras, Andhra, Kerala and Mysore. All the teams were coming from the Southern region of India and they played against each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the Zone. They also tried their best to get an entry into the knock out level of the tournament, however, only the teams like Hyderabad and Mysore could do so. They went on to compete with the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament.

Ranji Trophy 1966-67 West Zone League Matches: In the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, there was a participation of a number of 5 teams that included the likes of Bombay, Baroda, Saurashtra, Gujarat and Maharashtra. All the teams were representing the Western region of India in the tournament and they played some wonderful matches against each other to make the cricket enthusiasts further happy. The teams gave their best efforts to become one of the top two teams in the zone and also to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament. However, the Bombay and Baroda teams eventually got into the knock out level of the tournament form the West Zone.

Ranji Trophy 1966-67 Knock out Matches: The teams like Bengal, Railways, Bombay, Mysore and Rajasthan were the ones that became successful to get an entry into the knock out level of the tournament. All the teams were the toppers in their respective zones and they tasted each other`s strength in the Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final matches of the tournament. However, it was the Bombay team once again that successfully defended its title in the Final and became the champion of the tournament, once again.
