The knock out matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 started in the month of February, 1965, once all the matches of the zonal level were finished and the top teams of the zones were also finalised. The teams that became successful to enter into the knock out level of the tournament included the likes of Bengal, Hyderabad, Bombay, Services and Uttar Pradesh and they competed with each other in the Quarter-Final, Semi-Finals and the Final of the tournament.
The teams of Hyderabad and Bengal clashed with each other in the Quarter-Final of the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 and the match was held at Secunderabad from 13-16 February, 1965. The Hyderabad team dominated the Bengal team in the match and eventually won it by an innings and 187 runs to enter into the Semi-Final stage of the tournament. The first Semi-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 was played between the teams of Bombay and Services at Bombay from 19-22 February, 1965. The Bombay team thrashed the Services team by a huge margin of 9 wickets in the match and eased through the Final of the tournament.
There was a clash between the teams of Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh in the second Semi-Final of the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 and the match was held at Hyderabad from 27-30 March, 1965. The Hyderabad team played wonderfully in the match and set up a Final clash with the Bombay team by winning the Semi-Final match with a margin of an innings and 123 runs. Thus, the two best teams of the tournament, Bombay and Hyderabad locked their horns together in the Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 that was held at Hyderabad from 03-04 April, 1965. Though, the Hyderabad team tried very hard to break the winning run of the Bombay team, it failed to beat the Bombay team. The Bombay team continued to win the title of the Ranji Trophy for the seventh time, by defeating Hyderabad with a margin of an innings and 126 runs.
