The Madras team started it campaign in the tournament in a positive note, as it got a victory of 193 runs in the match and earned 9 points from it. The next match saw a battle between the teams of Mysore and Kerala at Bangalore from 14-15 November, 1963. The winner of the match was the Mysore team with a margin of an innings and 198 runs and it also earned 9 points from the match. The third match of the South Zone was played between the teams of Hyderabad and Andhra at Kothagudem from 16-18 November, 1963, where the Hyderabad team won by 7 wickets for earning 8 points from it.
In the fourth of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64, there was a clash between the teams of Hyderabad and Mysore and the match took place at Hyderabad from 23-25 November, 1963. The Mysore team won the match by a margin of an innings and 41 runs and earned 8 points from it. The Hyderabad team appeared in the next match also and this time, it played against the Kerala team at Calicut from 01-02 December, 1963, where it earned 9 points from the match by winning by an innings and 102 runs. The sixth of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 saw a battle between the teams of Andhra and Mysore at Guntur from 06-07 December, 1963. The match saw the Mysore team winning by an innings and 126 runs to earn 9 points.
The nest match of the South Zone involved the teams of Madras and Hyderabad and the match was held at Madras from 07-09 December, 1963. However, as the match was abandoned due to heavy rain, the match officials awarded 3 points each to both the teams. The two most powerful teams of the Zone, Madras and Mysore then clashed with each other at Bangalore from 14-16 December, 1963. The drawn match saw the Mysore team earning 5 points and the Madras team earning 3 points from it. Then, the teams of Kerala and Andhra met with each other at Tellicherry from 14-16 December, 1963, where the Kerala team won by 4 wickets to earn 8 points. The last of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 involved the teams of Andhra and Madras and the match was played at Anantapur from 03-05 January, 1964. Madras won the match by an innings and 79 runs and also earned 8 valuable points from it.
