All the 6 teams that participated under the North Zone in the previous year were present there in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 to compete for the title. The teams included the likes of Northern Punjab, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Southern Punjab, Services and Railways and they first played against each other in the North Zone. The Delhi and Services team became the toppers of the North Zone and got into the knock out level of the tournament.

The first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 was played between the teams of Northern Punjab and Delhi at Ludhiana from 07-10 November, 1963. The Delhi team started their journey in the tournament with a positive note, as they won this match by 10 wickets and earned 9 points from it. In the next match of the zone, the teams of Delhi and Southern Punjab clashes with each other at Patiala from 11-13 November, 1963. The Delhi team won the match by a good margin of an innings and 6 runs and earned 9 valuable points from the match. The teams of Northern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir then played against each other in the next match at Jullundur from 12-13 November, 1963. The Northern Punjab team played wonderfully in the match and earned 9 points by winning it with a huge margin of an innings and 142 runs.

The match between the teams of Southern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir was held at Patiala from 16-18 November, 1963, where the Southern Punjab team won by 234 runs and earned 9 points. Then, the Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir teams clashed with each other in the fifth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 that took place at Delhi from 20-21 November, 1963. Delhi continued its winning run in this match also and won it by a huge margin of an innings and 51 runs to earn 9 points. The next match of the North Zone saw the Services and Jammu & Kashmir teams playing against each other at Delhi from 24-25 November, 1963. Playing well in the match, the Services team clinched a big victory of an innings and 68 runs for earning 9 points from it.

The seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 was held between the teams of Northern Punjab and Services at Amritsar from 28-29 November, 1963. The Services team played well in this match also and earned 9 points from it to strengthen its position in the point table. The next match of the North Zone was played between the teams of Railways and Jammu & Kashmir at Delhi from 29-30 November, 1963. The Railways team played nicely in the match and clinched a victory of an innings and 62 runs for earning 9 points from it. The teams of Southern Punjab and Services then played against each other at Patiala from 03-05 December, 1963, where the Services team won by an innings and 101 runs to earn 9 points.

The next match of the North Zone was also held at the same timing from 03-05 December, 1963 and the match was played between the teams of Railways and Delhi at Delhi. The match saw a tough contest between the two teams and the Delhi team eventually became successful to clinch a narrow win of 3 wickets. Delhi earned 5 points and Railways earned 3 points from the match. The Delhi team appeared in the tenth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 also and this time, it played against the Services team from 07-09 December, 1963. The drawn match saw the Delhi team earning 5 points and Services earning 3 points from it. The two teams from Punjab, Northern Punjab and Southern Punjab then clashed with each other at Kapurthala from 07-09 December, 1963. The Northern Punjab team won the match by 10 wickets and earned 8 points from it.

The teams of Services and Railways played against each other in the next match of the North Zone at Delhi from 11-13 December, 1963 and the match was drawn during its stipulated time. The Railways team earned 5 points and Services earned 3 points from the match. There was a clash between the teams of Railways and Northern Punjab in the 14th of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 at Delhi from 15-17 December, 1963. The Railways team won the match by an innings and 64 runs and earned 8 points from it. The Railways team appeared in the last match also and it played against the Southern Punjab team at Delhi from 19-21 December, 1963. The drawn match saw the Southern Punjab team earning 5 points and Railways earning 3 points from it.
