The South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 comprised a number of 5 teams that came from the Southern part of India. The teams included the likes of Madras, Mysore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Andhra and all of them gave heir best efforts to become one of the top two teams of the South Zone. However, the teams like Hyderabad and Mysore became successful to do so and they went into the knock level of the tournament.
The first match of the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 was played between the teams of Hyderabad and Mysore at Hyderabad from 14-16 November, 1959. The Mysore team played wonderfully in the match and won it by 7 wickets and earned the 8 valuable points from it. A clash between the teams of Madras and Kerala occurred in the second match of the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 and the match was played at Coimbatore from 14-16 November, 1959. The match saw the Madras team winning by a huge 9 wickets margin and also earning the entire 9 points from it. The third match of the South Zone involved the teams of Hyderabad and Kerala and the match took place at Hyderabad from 20-22 November, 1959. The Hyderabad team won the match by an innings and 95 runs and got the full 9 points form the match.
The teams of Mysore and Andhra played the next match of the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 at Bangalore from 21-22 November, 1960, where the Mysore team won by an innings and 104 runs. The Mysore team also earned the entire 9 points from the match. In the fourth match of the zone, the teams of Mysore and Madras met with each other at Dharwar from 05-07 December, 1959. The Mysore team won the match by 6 wickets to earn 8 valuable points from it. However, the Madras team also earned 1 point from the match. The Mysore team then played against the Kerala team in the next match at Mangalore from 12-14 December, 1959. The match saw the Mysore team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 97 runs and earning the entire 9 points from it.
The seventh match of the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 was played between the teams of Hyderabad and Madras at Hyderabad from 12-14 December, 1959. The Hyderabad team played well in the match and earned 8 valuable points by winning the match by 4 wickets. The teams of Andhra and Kerala clashed with each other in the next match at Palghat from 25-27 December, 1960. As the match was drawn during its stipulated time, the match officials awarded the Kerala and Andhra teams 6 and 3 points each for the match. The Andhra team appeared in the next match also and this time, it played against the Hyderabad team at Hyderabad from 02-04 January, 1960. The Hyderabad team became successful to win the match by 8 wickets and also earned the full 9 points from it. The last match of the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 witnessed a clash between the teams of Madras and Andhra at Madras from 08-09 January, 1960. The Madras team won the match by 6 wickets and earned the total 9 points from the match.
