The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 saw a tough competition between 6 teams, all from the Northern region of India. The non-state teams like Services and Railways competed in the tournament under the North Zone and the other teams in the Zone included the likes of Delhi, East Punjab, Southern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. The teams like Delhi and Services played extremely well in the zonal level and entered into the knock out level of the tournament from the North Zone.

The league matches of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 started with the match between the teams of East Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir at Jullundar from 16-17 January, 1960. The match saw the East Punjab team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 78 runs and it also earned the entire 9 points from the match. The East Punjab team appeared in the next match also and this time, it played against the Services team at Jullundar from 19-21 January, 1960. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the Services team earned 5 points and East Punjab team earned 3 points from the match. In the third match of the North Zone, the teams of Southern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir played against each other at Patiala from 19-20 January, 1960. The Southern Punjab team won the match by a good margin of an innings and 60 runs and earned the full 9 points from the match.

The fourth league match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 was played between the teams of Southern Punjab and Services at Patiala from 23-25 January, 1960. The Services team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 39 runs from it. The Services team earned the full 9 points from the match, as well. The next match saw a battle between the teams of East Punjab and Delhi at Amritsar from 27-29 January, 1960, where the Delhi team won by 6 wickets. The Delhi team also earned the entire 9 points from the match. The Delhi team appeared in the next match of the Zone also and this time, it played against the Southern Punjab team at Patiala from 31 January-02 February, 1960. The Delhi team played wonderfully in the match to earn 9 points by winning it by an innings and 15 runs.

The teams of Services and Jammu & Kashmir took part in the next match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 at Delhi from 31 January-01 February, 1960. The Services team won the match by an innings and 252 runs. The Jammu & Kashmir team the played against the Railways team at Delhi from 04-05 February, 1960. However, the team was defeated by the Railways with a margin of an innings and 377 runs and Railways earned the full 9 points from the match. The next match saw a battle between the two Punjab teams, Southern Punjab and East Punjab and the match was held at Amritsar from 04-05 February, 1960. The drawn match saw the Southern Punjab team earning 5 points and the East Punjab team earning 3 points from it.

The next match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 involved the teams of Delhi and Services and the teams played the match at Delhi from 05-07 February, 1960. The match was drawn during its duration and the match officials awarded the Services and Delhi teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Railways and East Punjab teams then clashed with each other at Delhi from 08-09 February, 1960 where the Railways team won by 10 wickets. The Railways team also earned the entire 9 points from the match. In the next match of the Zone, the teams like Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir played against each other at Delhi from 09-10 February 1960. The Delhi team played the match with total dominance and eventually won it by an innings and 133 runs to earn 9 points from it.

The Services team then played against the Railways team in the next match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60, at Delhi from 13-14 February, 1960. The Services team once again proved their superiority in the match and won it by an innings and 96 runs for earning the entire 9 points from it. The next match of the zone was played between the teams of Delhi and Railways at Delhi from 18-20 February, 1960. The drawn match saw the Delhi team getting 5 points and the Railways team earning 3 points from it. There was a clash between the teams of Railways and Southern Punjab in the last match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 and the match took place at Delhi from 22-23 February, 1960. The match was won by the Railways team with a margin of an innings and 133 runs to earn the entire 9 points from the match.
