Jyotsna Bhole, a Marathi actress was born in the year 1914. Her birthplace was Goa. She was trained as a Hindustani or Indian classical vocalist and started a career as a concert artist at the age of 13. When her husband, music director Keshavrao Bhole, co-founded the theatre company Natyamanwantar Ltd in 1933, she acted in their productions. She was the first Marathi actress to come from a respectable family background. She created the innocent heroine in their inaugural Andhalyanchishala i.e. "School for the Blind" in 1933. After Natyamanwantar folded up, she joined M. G. Rangnekar's Natyaniketan in 1941 and played the lead in his Kulavadhu i.e. "Family Bride" in 1942, of a film actress who walks out on her husband. She became one of the most respected singer-actresses in Marathi theatre, retiring in the 1960s. She also wrote a few plays and an autobiography.
