Sunnundalu also known as urad dal laddu is a delicious dessert mostly popular in the Andhra Pradesh state of India. This sweet not only has a tongue-tickling taste but is loaded with nutritional value as well. Dal and ghee are the main ingredients of this sweet. Both of them have the protein and fat content respectively which is good for the growing kids. Also urad dal is considered to give strength to the backbone. And as a whole, this sweet is very good for women.
Ingredients of Sunnundalu:
3 cups of whole urad
1 and half cups of sugar
1 cup of melted ghee at room temperature
Method of Preparing Sunnundalu:
Roast whole urad dal to light gold colour.
Grind urad dal and sugar to superfine sand like powder.
Add melted ghee to the urad dal-sugar powder.
Mix the whole mixture and shape them into laddus.
Another method of preparing Sunnundalu with slight change in the ingredients:
Ingredients of Sunnundalu:
1 cup urad dal
1 cup sugar
One fourth tbsp cardamom powdered
2 tbsp cashews chopped
2 tbsp almonds chopped
1 tbsp pistachios chopped
2 tbsp raisins
3 to 4 tbsp ghee
Method of Preparing Sunnundalu:
Firstly, clean the urad dal and dry roast it in a pan till they turn very light golden brown in colour.
Then allow to cool
Grind the roasted dal in a mixer
Sieve the grounded urad dal flour, so that all the thick particles are left behind.
Grind sugar in the mixer to smooth powder and keep it aside.
Roast cashew, almond and pistachios to golden and reserve.
Take urad dal flour in a wide bowl.
Add powdered sugar to it.
Add the roasted nuts, raisins and cardamom powder.
Mix all the ingredients properly and evenly.
Add warm ghee and combine.
Now the mixture to make laddus is ready.
Take a small portion of mixture in the hands and press it to give it a small round ball shape.
Repeat the same for the rest of the mixture.
Sunnundalu or urad dal laddu is a good idea to sweeten the tooth of guests when invited at some party at home. This dessert is also popular during special occasions like Diwali festival, baby showers etc.
