L R G Government Arts College for Women, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Tamil NaduL R G Government Arts College for Women is the only women`s government college in the whole district of Coimbatore. It began its journey on July 15, 1971, with just 221 students. Pre-University classes are conducted by faculty members of Arts and Science streams, with English and Tamil as the mode of teaching. Members of L.R.Govindarajulu family had contributed 22 acres of land in the same year. Government of Tamil Nadu had constructed the college building. Bachelors courses in History and Tamil began in 1972. Other degree courses in Zoology started in 1974, while English Literature and Chemistry started in 1977and 1980 respectively. Physics also made way in 1985.

The degree course in Economics began in 1998. Keeping in mind the increasing needs of students, L R G Government Arts College for Women had plans to commence self-financing courses. B.Com C.A., B.Sc in Physics, M.A. in (Tamil ), M.A. in (English), M.Sc. and Mathematics were inaugurated in the academic year of 2003. B.Com was introduced in the academic year 2004 and B.Sc., Computer Science was on track since 2005. In the span of thirty-five years, L R G Government Arts College for Women is a must for those who want to pursue higher education and hails from Tirupur and nearing areas. Silver Jubilee of the college was feted during 1996 -1997.

At present one thousand and four hundred students are present in the college, with 80 teachers in faculty. On 18th April, 2000, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) had awarded 2 star status to the college. L R G Government Arts College for Women offers regular courses at undergraduate level. These include-- Bachelor of Arts (B.A) with main subjects like Tamil, English, History, Economics. Science aspirants also can take admission in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology (T.M). Self Financing Courses include-- B.Com CA, B.Com, B.Sc. in Physics with Computer Application, B.Sc. in Computer Science with AOS, M.Sc. (Mathematics), M.A. in Tamil Literature, M.A. in English Literature.
