Anna Adarsh College for Women, ChennaiAffiliated to the University of Madras, the Anna Adarsh College for Women is one of the leading self financing educational institutions established in 1985 by the Punjab Association. The college is located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in the north western part of Chennai in an affluent and commercial neighbourhood called the Anna Nagar.

History of Anna Adarsh College for Women
The foundation stone for the Anna Adarsh College for Women was laid in the year 1985 by Shri Giani Zail Singh, the erstwhile President of India, who is in power from 1982 to 1987. The college is named after the illustrious political stalwart, C.N. Annadurai, who served as the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for a brief period and was also the last Chief Minister of the state from 1967 until 1969. It is after him the town of Anna Nagar and the college is named.

Initially, the Anna Adarsh College for Women began with just 17 staff members and 300 students but with time has transformed into a big institution with 205 faculty members and a 5300 strong student force. The college now offers 15 Under Graduate courses, 10 Post Graduate courses, along with 3 Research and 4 Language Departments, 13 Certificate and Add on Courses.

The Anna Adarsh College for Women houses various departments like the Under Graduate courses offered here such as B.B.M, B.Com, and Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, English Literature, History, Tourism and Travel Management. The Post Graduate programmes include Master of Arts in Public Administration, M.C.A, Master of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics. Certificate Courses on Travel and Ticketing, Textile Garment & Fashion Designing, Personality Development, E-Commerce are gaining popularity. A Diploma course in Computerised Accounting is also offered.

The mission of the college is to help young women grow into confident, creative, emotionally balanced and professionally competent individuals by nurturing their all- round potential through an excellent educational system that is dynamic and innovative to women from all sections of society.
