Doraisamy Nadar Maragathavalli Ammal College ,Nagapattinam , Tamil NaduAffiliated to Bharathidasan University, A.Doraisamy Nadar Maragathavalli Ammal College for Women was formed in 1975, the very year designated as the International Women Year, to provide educational opportunities to females of the village areas of Nagapattinam. Run by Natarajan Dhamayanthi Educational Trust, the students are expected not only to upheld and carry forth the standard of education, but also to preserve its standard by imbibing the qualities of dedication, responsibility and obedience. The college achieved autonomous status on 9.11.2004. NAAC had also rewarded "A" Grade to A.Doraisamy Nadar Maragathavalli Ammal College for Women on 16. 09. 2004.

The objective of the college is to bring about economic and social equity for women through progress and application of pertinent knowledge. In this way the college makes all the female students aware about their own rights and position in society.


A.Doraisamy Nadar Maragathavalli Ammal College for Women offers Undergraduate courses like B.A in History, B.A. in Economics, B.Sc. in Mathematics, B.Sc-Chemistry, B.Sc.- Zoology and B.Com. Postgraduate courses offered are- M.A. in Economics, M.Sc. in Mathematics, M.Com. Apart from these, full time M.Phil is offered in subjects like Economics, Mathematics, Commerce. Self-financing courses are offered both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These include B.Sc. in Physics, B.Sc. in Computer science, B.Sc. in Biochemistry, B.Sc. in I.T. and B.Com. Other postgraduate courses are M.C.A, M.S.I.T and also Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Application. Special courses include- Short-term course in Accountancy, English for Communication, Short-term course in Tally, Short-term course in MS-Office, Short-term course in DTP, Career Oriented Programme Sponsored by U.G.C, Fashion Technology, Office Management & Automation, Tourism & Journalism, Industrial Chemical Techniques, Bioinformatics and Computer Application.

The well-equipped library of A.Doraisamy Nadar Maragathavalli Ammal College for Women helps in the academic pursuits of the students. It remains open from 9.00 A.M. to 5.30 P.M. on all working days.

Students can accommodate themselves in hostels, built amidst lush greenery. In fact its calm and tranquil atmosphere is ideal for studying. One can get healthy vegetarian meals at affordable prices. It has all the amenities available that makes their stay in the hostel comfortable and cozy. The infrastructure includes a plush dinning hall.

The library with a collection of books on fiction, current affairs and magazines, can be called extremely well stocked. There is a sick room with beds and emergency medicines.

Apart from academics, special effort is given to initiate activities that help in developing intellectual and emotional faculty of the students. Nurturing leadership abilities is necessary in developing the overall quality of students so that they are competent enough to meet the challenges of the modern day society. Towards achieving that objective, every department has developed associations like Elakkiya Poonga, English Literary Club, Bio Chemical Association, Physics Association, Commerce Association, Global Vision. Several clubs, scheme and forum have been established with the sole purpose of inculcating the sense of responsibility and also meeting other needs. These include Women Cell, Consumer Protection Club, Population Education Club, Voluntary Blood Donation Club, Health Club, Human Rights Club, Research Publication, Consultancy Cell, Project in fisheries, Project in Soil Analysis, Kala Malika, Quiz Club, Yoga Club, Village Adoption Scheme and Planning Forum.
