Sri Venkateswara College , DelhiSri Venkateswara College is a foremost institution of educational training and research. Affiliated to the University of Delhi, the college`s achievements are pretty good. It is one of the forty-seven colleges of India, which is bestowed with the honour of being a "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) ". This was granted by the reputed institute United Grants Commission (UGC) in 2004. Jointly with NASSCOM, UGC also has chosen this college as a hub for building "Techno-business Skills Development (TSD)" centre. The selection was based on the feedbacks from the representatives of the industry concerned. Multitudes of other factors like comfort level of the partners of the IT industry have acted to be really beneficial.

History of the formation of Sri Venkateswara College is quite enriched. It was formed under the aegis of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust to fulfill its noble objective of meeting the educational needs of the students of South India. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India laid the foundation stone of the college on 20th August 1961.

From then onwards the college started functioning on a modest way with two hundred and seventy one students and thirteen faculties in a school mansion. Andhra Education Society at Rouse Avenue, New Delhi built this school building. 25th August 1969 was a milestone in the history of Sri Venkateswara College- on that day the college was shifted into its own airy buildings that was built at Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi. Over the years the college discarded its regionalism and has become one of the reputed co-educational colleges of the Indian subcontinent.

Distinguishing the need to put into practice an excellent educational system that can go at par with constant change and development, Sri Venkateswara College offers an array of courses both in graduation and post graduation level. These include B. Com. (Honours), B.Com. (Pass), B. A. (Honours) in Economics, English, Hindi, Sociology, Sanskrit, Political Science, History and Mathematics; B. Sc. (General) Group B; B.Sc. (Hons) in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Bio-chemistry, Statistics, Electronics, Zoology Physics, and Sanskrit. Postgraduate Courses incorporate Tourism and Travel Management;Statistics, English, History, Bio-chemical Technology. Special certificate and diploma Courses on Sanskrit and German are also worth mentionable. Various add-on, vocational and short-term courses are offered so that the students can grow capable to meet the challenges of cosmopolitan society.

Apart from studies special attention is provided to inculcate various extracurricular activities. Students have developed expertise in various fields like debating, dramatics, creative writing, music, dancing. Sports are also highly promoted. The college premises boasts cricket field of national standard and courts for Basket Ball, Lawn tennis etc. Sri Venkateswara College has an excellent library fully computerised. It has a huge of collection of 99,150 Books, 62 Journals & Magazines, 12 Newspapers and 180 Educational CDs. The Alumni has also established their competency in the society. Iqbal Singh had topped in the IAS exams in 1996. Shilpi Singh was amongst the recipients of the Arjuna award in 1998.

Recently in the academic year of 2005-06 Sri Venkateswara College started new courses in B.Sc. in Life Sciences and B.Sc. (Honours) in Biological Sciences. Interestingly it is the only college under Delhi University that offers the above-mentioned courses with fiscal aid from University of Delhi.
