Surendra Vithal Nayak, popularly called Suru Nayak, was a left-hand batsman, and right-arm medium pace and leg break bowler. Suru Nayak, was born on 20th October, 1954, in
Mumbai, of Maharashtra state in India .
Suru Nayak, has participated in 2 Tests and 4 One-Day Internationals from 1981 to 1982.
Suru Nayak, rose to prominence, when all of a sudden he was selected for the touring Indian team, venturing out to England in 1982. However, in spite of his immense efforts, he couldn`t earn for himself a place in the Indian cricket team.
Suru Nayak, took part in two Tests. He made his Test debut in the 2nd Test against England, at Old Trafford, in Manchester, in 1982. He couldn`t make much difference for the better, although he captured the important wicket of David Gower, in the second innings of the Oval Test.
Interestingly enough, his first ODI appearance was also opposing England, during the 2nd ODI, at Gandhi Stadium, in Jalandhar, 1981/82. The rival team of England, has some wonderful connections to his career-circle. His Test and ODI career, ended with England. His last Test was the 3rd Test between India and England at Kennington Oval, of London in 1982. His last ODI, was the 2nd ODI match of India Vs England, held at Kennington Oval, in London, during 1982.
Suru Nayak`s career statistics show that both in Test and One-Day Internationals, he has been able to obtain only one wicket, for each. In ODIs he had bowled in aggregate for 37 overs, yielding 161 runs, at an average of 161.00. Whereas, when it comes to considering his Test record, we find that his bowling has spanned over 38 overs, giving out 132 runs, at an average of 132.00.
Sur Nayak, a fairly useful bowler and fielder, has sincerely attempted to serve the interests of Indian team, although for a very short period.
