Ghulam Parkar
Ghulam Ahmed Hasan Mohammed Parkarm known as Ghulam Parkar was an asset of Bombay cricket.

Ghulam Ahmed Hasan Mohammed Parkar, born on 25th October 1955, in Kaluste, of Maharashtra has attended a single Test and 10 One-Day Internationals.

His career-duration with the Indian national team ranged from 1982 to 1984. Ghulam Parkar worked as a right-hand batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler. The major teams that have featured him were India and Mumbai.

Ghulam Parkar has functioned as an opening batsman, with fine strokes. His fielding capabilities were also praiseworthy. Parkar`s impressive deeds in domestic cricket ensured his entry into the national team. He was chosen for the 1982 expedition to England. In this India in England Test series, Parkar made his debut in the first Test. Unfortunately he failed to withstand and defend himself against the pace attacks and swing traps of Willis and Botham. In the first innings, he yielded a meager 6 runs, being made to commit a blunder of lbw by Ian Botham. In the 2nd innings, he declined further scoring only 1 run being bowled out by Willis.

Nevertheless, his dauntless batting, tossing off the opponent bowling and gave him the scope to participate in 10 ODIs. His total was 165, made at an average of 18.33 in 10 ODIs. His good fielding earned India 4 catches, on the whole.

However, in first-class cricket, his statistics were indeed splendid. In 66 matches, he pocketed 4167 runs, at a high average of 42.09. The distinctions in his level performance in the two different spheres were obvious. While his crowning first-class score was 170*, in international realms, it is a fairly good 42.

Ghulam Parkar was one of the mainstays in the Bombay team over man-years. His Ranji Trophy aggregate was a 3087 runs made at a pretty elevated average of 49.79. Ghuam Parker had the caliber to play the role of Sunil Gavaskar`s appropriate partner in Ranji matches over a prolonged period of time. One must remember that in the 1981-82 quarterfinal against Bengal the outstanding pair contributed a massive 421 runs. Ghulam Parkar, was thus enhanced the renown of domestic cricket with his meritorious performances.
