Among the numerous number of sports that have been playing in this world, a very few sports can gain the attention from all sorts of people. Though, the sport --`Squash` cannot be uttered among those most popular games, it is quite well known in a lot of countries in the world. The `Squash` is a fast-moving indoor racquet game that needs great fitness and athleticism on behalf of the player. It is played in such a court that is surrounded by four walls, preferably made of transparent glass. The front one of the four walls normally includes a tin or container. This tin acts like the net in the sport of Tennis. The most important usage of the tin is that, if any player hits the ball into it, the play stops there for that rally. The game of `Squash` is governed by the World Squash Federation.
The sport, `Squash` was called as "Squash Racquets" in the past. This name was referred to the "Squashable" soft ball that is used in the game. The game called as `Racquets` is considered to be its parent game. This game requires a harder ball to play. Usually there are two sides in the game of `Squash` like most of the other games. The sides may be two individuals or there may be two pairs of players. All the players use `standard` rackets while playing the game. The racquets are made up of loosely woven but very tight and firm strings. They are normally round or linear in shape. `Squash` racquets are very much similar in format to the Tennis racquets. However, they are slightly different in size and shape from them. The squash ball is a small and hollow rubber ball that can move very fast if stroked. An officially standard `Squash` ball is about 4cm or approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. The ball can be squashed very easily. The players must hit all the balls against the front wall and the play alternates between the players when one fails to return a ball to the front wall or the ball hits the tin. The ball can bounce off any of the four walls and also off the floor where it has to remain below a boundary line that divides the walls.
In the game of `Squash`, only the server can score points. A point is scored when the server wins a rally. If a receiver wins a rally, he becomes the server. Usually, there are 3 to 5 sets in a `Squash` match and the winner of each set becomes the first one to earn 9 points. The sport has some great utilities. It can burn a large amount of calories, can build very good hand-eye co-ordination and is a lot of fun to play. It is characterized as a "high-impact" exercise that can place strain on the joints, particularly on the knees, as there`s a lot of starting and stopping in the game. However, it should be noted that if anyone is not very much fit, he would be totally stuffed after a game of `Squash`. For this reason, one should be ensured that he has good trainers with good ankle support. The quick changes in direction in the play can cause injury if anyone is wearing a light shoe. It is also advised for one to protest his eyes properly as a squash ball can travel over 100 mph and can cause a lot of damage if hit the eyes.
