Indian National Parks

Indian national parks are quite a large in number, providing ample scope for the adventurous tourists to cherish the beauty of wild life. The wild animals and the scenery of dense forestry, its flora, cast a spell in the minds of the tourists. Each and every one of it has its unique charm and variety to offer. Some of the widely acclaimed Indian national parks are the Great Himalayan National Park, Dachigam National Park near Srinagar etc. The Corbett National Park was the first national park of India. It was a brainchild of the renowned hunter Jim Corbett. It was formed in the year 1936. It is situated in the laps of the beautiful hill stations of Western Himalayas like Nainital and Pauri Garhwal in Uttaranchal. The Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is an integral its reserved forest area. Ranthambore National Park is an important one among the Indian National Parks. It belongs to the category of great Virgin Forests of the central India and thus has gained Indian National Parksrecognition worldwide. This national park has got an interesting history. Although previously it was a favorite hunting ground for the Maharaja of Jaipur, it became a sports ground in the year 1955. In 1980s, it became a national park and was listed among the reserves protected under Project Tiger in the year1973. Currently the Kaila Devi Sanctuary, which is renowned for its tigers, and also the Man Singh Sanctuary form an essential part of reserve forest area of Ranthambore.

The climatic conditions largely effected due to its varied geographical suitability. Located in the northwestern state of Rajasthan, and is bounded by the Vindhya and Aravali hill ranges. There is also the close proximity of the Thar Desert. The whole area of 390 sq km is located 500 m above sea level; this has resulted in the growth of extensive tract of desert and semi-desert vegetation.

Indian National parks are widely known for the endangered species that have undertaken marvelous efforts. Also the rare wildlife species are found in many of the Indian national parks. Languor, monkeys are few amongst them that deserve special mentioning. Gir Forest holds the last surviving population of Asiatic lion in the world. Also the Kaziranga National Park in Assam is home to a large population of one-horned rhinoceroses and wild buffalo. For those enthusiasts who want to see the rare Asian elephants, Bandipur, situated in the Western Ghats of the Indian Territory, is the best place to visit.

All these factors have contributed in the development of eco-tourism in India. Every year myriads of tourists visit these parks , just to behold the beauty and treasures of wild life , quite different from those in any of the hilly regions and coastal beaches.

Quite a handful of Indian national parks have been built over the years. In fact as per the present record, the country`s finest wildlife species are found in the 571 parks and sanctuaries under the supervision of forest departments. Indian national parks are spread through out the entire province- north, south, east and west- each being exclusive in its preserves and aura.

The Northern region:
Among the Indian national parks that can be found in India, few are built here under the maintenance and supervision of the concerned authority. These are Dachigam National Park, Hemis National Park, Great Himalayan National Park, Valley Of Flowers, Rajaji National Park, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, namely, Corbett Tiger Reserve, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, Sariska Tiger Reserve,The Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary, too are no less important.

The Western Zone
The Indian parks include Desert National Park, The Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary, Marine National Park, Blackbuck ( Velavadar ) National Park, Gir National Park, Sanjay Gandhi National park, Dandeli Wild life Sanctuary.

Parks of Central India
The Central India is ennobled by several parks and reserves, namely, Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Palamau Tiger Reserve, Kanha Tiger Reserve, Nagzira wildlife sanctuary and Nawecaon National park, Tadoba- Andhari Tiger Reserve, Pench Tiger Reserve, Melghat Tiger Reserve, Bori Wildlife Sanctuary, etc.

Eastern India
No other can stand in comparison as far the number of Indian national Parks are concerned. They are also highly acclaimed in the international arena. Various tiger reserves are found here, along with quite a few famous national parks. These include Namdapha Tiger Reserve, Kaziranga National park, Khibul Lamjao National Park, Manas Tiger Reserve, Buxa Tiger Reserve and Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Sundarbans tiger Reserve, Simlipal Tiger Reserve, BhitarKanika Wildlife Sanctuary & Gahirmatha Marine Wildlife Sanctuary, Chilka Wildlife Sanctuary.

South India
Many national parks and sanctuaries too are found in this part of Indian sub continent. These are namely, Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, Ranganathittu wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarhole national Park, Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Silent Valley National Park, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, Eravikulam National Park, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary, Guindy National Park

In the core of every heart of animal and nature lovers, Indian National Parks have got special appeal. Apart from the fact that they are innumerable in numbers, the rich treasures of the wild life throws a glimpse of the country`s plentitude in flora and fauna.
