Treatment of Backache
Treatment of Backache have various stages and also procedures according to the suitability of the patient.

If it is a simple case of sprain, muscle pull or strain, it is better that the person be on bed rest for some time along with the painkillers and some analgesic applications. But bed rest also can be a problem in the long run as the lower back muscles can become weak, as it is not subjected to exercise for quite some time. Later on, it can become a cause for painful back. So it is a very delicate balance to handle such patients and to decide how to reduce the pain as well as accumulate the strength of the muscles. In case, the patient does not respond to the bed rest and analgesics, what is done in general is to undergo physiotherapy for a few days, which may assist in the reduction of pain. If the backache is still not under control then, by MRI investigation the stage of the vertebral column and the inter vertebral discs are assessed and treatment is suggested which might be with the use of traction for some days depending on the intensity of the ache or some surgeons select to give epidural injectable to check the pain.

Surgery is probably the last option for the treatment of backache, which is considerably increasing nowadays. Ayurveda has also proved to be one of the best non-invasive treatments for various types of backache including slip disc. It is also been observed that the treatment through Ayurveda followed by the yoga therapy works out to be wonders for the treatment of backache and neck pain including cervical and lumbar spondylitis. There would be certain do`s and don`ts that if followed can give enough relief from the problem of backache and also avoid its recurrence. In certain stages, some of the alternate therapies like acupressure, reiki etc might be helpful.

Recurrence of backache is an important factor. The backache caused due to muscle pull, posture defects can be corrected and the recurrence can be avoided by correcting the same. But if it is a disc lesion, the recurrence cannot be completely stopped even by surgery, and the repeat surgery in the same region is not advisable in the treatment of backache. It is preferable to try out all other non-surgical and non-invasive methods of handling backache before going for the surgery. Preventive lifestyle, light exercises, correct posture, high fiber diet, regular massages with oil applications like good herbal oils, meditation and others might be a good recipe for handling backache.

Treatment for backache can be followed by diet. The intake of certain foods is important to strengthen the system from within. In the context of back pains and backaches the diet plan needs to focus on fortifying the back. Proteins and Vitamin C are necessary for the growth of a healthy bone matrix and Vitamin C is known to relieve low-back pain and prevention of spinal disc operations. Vitamin D, calcium phosphorus and the essential trace minerals are also essential for healthy bones. Milk a good source of Vitamin D and is a must in the diet.

Diet alone cannot pave way to health it has to be balanced with exercise. Exercise is required to keep the body physically fit and active. Moreover exercise improves the supply of nutrients to spinal discs; thereby delaying the process of worsening that comes with age and affects everybody. Simple and safe exercises include walking, swimming and bicycling. Yogic asanas known to benefit in the treatment of backache are bhujangasana, shalabhasana, halasana, uttanpadasana and shavasana. However, alternate sponging and application of heat to the back can give immediate relief incase of back pain.

Lemon has another useful remedy for backache. The lemon juice should be mixed with common salt and consumed by the person with backache. Garlic is also known to be a good remedy for backaches. Two or three flakes of garlic taken daily in the morning can give good results. The use of chebulic myroblan is also beneficial in the treatment of backache. A piece of this herb should be taken after meals and this can give instant relief. Treatment of backache should never be neglected that can lead to worse conditions.
