The causes of backache are many, starting from incorrect sitting postures to major accidents. The commonest causes of backache are lifting weights in awkward angles, riding two wheelers on bumpy roads, incorrect start of exercises, sitting or sleeping posture, wrong types of mattresses, lifestyle, chronic constipation or a fall and many more. These may cause a backache or may be a factor in increasing an existing disc lesion.

The causes of backache can be attributed to various kinds lifestyle and the changes due to physical and emotional health issues. Inactive living habits and hazardous work patterns, emotional stress, which brings about spasm of the muscles, may also cause backache at times. Most backache patients suffer from cervical or lumbar spondylitis, which is a degenerative disorder in which the vertebral bone or the intervertebral disc becomes soft and loses shape. As a result of this, the spine often loses its flexibility. Muscular tension, joint strain, poor posture, incorrect nutrition and lack of exercise are common causes of backache.

Lack of exercise may cause back problems, moreover it may also result from acute or chronic illnesses like kidney or prostate problems, female disorders. Obesity could lead to strain on the back and result in back pain. Improper posture while lifting heavy objects and uninterrupted sitting posture can also worsen a back problem. Many women may have experienced backaches and a probable reason could be high heels like stilettos that are put strain on the back resulting in back aches. The causes of backache should not be neglected and proper measures should be taken in order to avoid backaches.
