The Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences (CIDS) is a renowned medical institution in the state of Karnataka and it is located on one of the smallest districts of the state, Coorg. The institute started its journey in September, 1999 and is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The college is also approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI), the Government of Karnataka and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The college has consistently achieved excellent academic performance and the pass percentage of its students ranges between an enviable 92 and 98 per cent that is the highest among the colleges in the State.

The Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences (CIDS), Coorg has been working on achieving some certain aims and objectives and also with a steady mission. The main mission of the institute is to create an environment where students gain knowledge with character, science is tempered with humanity, and wealth is earned through hard work. The college believes in the value of time, dignity of simplicity, power of kindness and it is also working to promote optimum oral and general health in the world through excellence in education, patient care, research and service. The college is always trying to prepare highly qualified healthcare professionals, educationists and scientists in basic oral health sciences. Its endeavour is to provide patient-centred care that is comprehensive and compassionate for a culturally diverse population.

The college is working hard to address community and regional healthcare needs through outreach initiatives, Educational programmes, and consultative and referral services. Maintaining a leadership role in forming healthcare policy at the university, State, and national levels and becoming a worldwide resource for continued professional development is also another aim of the institute. Apart from that, the CIDS, Coorg is striving to provide an environment for individual growth founded on mutual respect and professionalism, as well.

Its aim is to provide quality dental education in the specialty subjects. The management and faculty of the CIDS always endeavour to graduate Dentists, who will serve not only our country but also all humanity. They are also trying hard to ensure total and undivided attention of the teacher so that the student can realize her/ his full academic potential. The institute admits 40 students in every batch at the undergraduate level.

The Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences (CIDS), Coorg has a large number of departments that are working relentlessly to provide proper medical education to the students of the institute. The major non-clinical departments of CIDS, Coorg include the department of Anatomy, Physiology & Bio-chemistry, Dental Materials, General & Dental Pharmacology, General Pathology & Microbiology, General Medicine and the department of General Surgery. Apart from that, the major clinical departments of the institute are the department of Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Medicine & Radiology, Community Dentistry and the department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology. The institute offers several courses like BDS, MDS etc at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in most of the above mentioned departments of Dental Science.
