Armed Forces Medical College was established on 1st May 1948 and today it is placed among the top medical colleges.

Armed Forces Medical College, PuneThe Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is located in Pune in Maharashtra and was established in the post world war period in 1948. On the recommendations of the B. C. Roy Committee, it was formed as a result of the combination of Army Medical Training Center and the Army School of Hygiene, the Central Military Pathology Laboratory, the School of Blood Transfusion and Army School of Radiology. Initially, the college was located in the Eve`s Estate and later was shifted to Connaught Barracks.

Army Forces Medical College began as a postgraduate training and research center. The first commandant of the institution was Col. P.P. Chowdry. On 3rd April 1953, Lt. Gen D.R. Thapar, the then Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, laid the foundation stone of the main building which was completed in August 1956. The college was expanded with the addition of department of Dental Surgery in May 1955. The graduate department of the college was started on 4th August 1962. The College of Nursing was added in the year 1964. At present, the college is placed amongst the top medical colleges of the country.
