Andhra University is situated at Visakhapatnam.It was set up in the year 1925. This University provides higher education in the five districts of Andhra Pradesh- Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.In these districts 575 colleges are affiliated to the University.
There are four constituent colleges of the University. The college of arts and commerce offers 55 courses under 28 departments.The engineering college offers undergraduate and post graduate courses under 16 departments. The college of science and technology runs 19 departments and offers 44 courses.The law college provides advanced courses on legal studies.
Andhra University started MBA programme in 1957 as the first University of India to offer MBA course. Apart from the main campus in Vishakapatnam the University has its campus in Etcherla, Kakinada, East Godavari district, Srikakulam district West Godavari district Tadepalligudem and Vizianagaram.The campus of Guntur city was converted into Acharya Nagarjuna University in 1976.The NAAC accredited the University with Grade A .The University offers various courses in distance learning mode. There are 32 study centers and about 97,000 students across the state.
The University has its own Press & Publications Division Central Workshop, Photographic Division Academic Staff College and Computer Centre.On the campus there are 13 centers or institutes including Centre for Women`s Studies Centre for Technology Forecasting, Institute of Public Sector Management, Centre for Computer Aided Design, Institute for Yoga and Consciousness, Agro-Economics Research Centre and Population Research Centre etc.
