Sculpture of Adi Kumbeshwara TempleThe history of this 17th century temple is steeped in legends. One of the most noted features of the temple architecture is its gopuram. It has 9 tiers and rises to a height of 128 feet. The entire structure has been decorated with beautiful figure sculptures and others. The Adi Kumbeshwara Temple comprises the usual architectural elements, such as, the garbhagriha, the mandapa and pillars. The columns of the mandapa (hall) have been designed with painted `yali`. Just in front of main shrine lies the sculpted image of Nandi. Apart from these there are silver vahanas, and pancha loham figures of 63 Nayanmar poet-saints.

One of the most striking features of the sculpture of Adi Kumbeshwara Temple is the design on its Navaratri Mandapam. On a single block of stone all the 12 `rashis` and 27 stars have been etched out on stone. The Kalyana Mandapam, on the other hand, has two nadaswarams carved out of stone. Here one would come across the images of Kiratamurthy and Subramanya.

The temple contains some wonderful pieces of sculpture and architecture. Its main Gopuram is 128 feet high and has many intricately carved sculptures on it. On a single block of stone in the Navaratri Mandapam all the 27 stars and 12 `Rashis` (signs) have been carved out. The image of Lord Subramanya, enshrined in this part of the temple, is a rare specimen. It has six heads but only six hands holding different kinds of weapons.
