Nakshatra-Yoginis is the chief stars of the lunar mansions, or asterisms in the moon`s path. These stars are said to be the twenty-seven daughters of Daksha, who became the virtuous wives of the Moon.
It is believed that there are twenty-seven division of the lunar orbit. According to astronomy each orbit marks the motion of the moon in one lunar day.
The Hindu astrologers believe that Nakshatra-Yoginis make them of great practical consequence, from their assumed good or evil influence. In the books of old Astronomy these stars begin from the first degree of Aries.
The name and meaning of each star are as follows:
•Asvini or the ram`s head means good
•Bharani signifies bad
•Critica, Pleiades indicates very bad
•Rohini, hyades is a sign of good
•Mrigasiras, a triple star signifies good
•Ardra, one star means bad
•Punar vasu, four stars indicates good
•Pushya, nebula in Cancer means good
•Aslesha, five stars is a of bad
•Magha, or leonis means good
•Purvaphalguni, two stars is a sign of medium
•Uttara Phalguni, two stars is also a sign of medium
•Hasta, five stars means good
•Chitra, one star is bad
•Swati, one star is good
•Visaka, four stars indicates bad
•Anuradha, four stars means good
•Jyeshta, three stars are sign of bad and something omen
•Mula, eleven stars, or scorpions are very bad
•Purvashadha,four stars have medium consequence
•Uttara shadha, three stars indicates something good
•Sravana, three stars signifies good
•Dhanishta, four stars means bad
•Satabhisha are hundred stars which means awful.
•Purvabhadrapada, two stars are sign of medium.
•26. Uttarabhadrapada, two starsare also sign of medium or normal consequence.
•Revati, thirty-two stars means good.
All the influences of the above stars are related to the holy custom and rituals of marriage. The Nakshatras are classified as deva or divine, manushya or human; rakshasa or savage. If any of the two are to be married they should of the same class. Thus if one asterism is divine and the other is human, it may pass. But divine and savage is a cross that may not be permitted.
