Anahata Chakra or the heart chakra represents altruistic love. The word "love" is extremely difficult to define, for "love" means something different to each person. Perhaps this is the love of a father for his children, or the love of a mother for her children. The signposts for illuminating the heart chakra are as follows:
Symbol: The symbol for the chakra is the lotus and its petals. When one comes to this world four of the petals are already lost. Another symbol that remains hidden in the chakra is the undying flame of pure love. Although it burns with a purely yet it burns with a yellow tinge. It represents the flame of this world. When it is out of control, it can consume everything in its path.
Colour: The colour of the chakra is smoky blue. In India after the summers, the monsoon clouds overshadow the blue sky but they are always welcomed. It denotes that the rain god has not forgotten the people and will come to nurture his children.
Emotion: The emotion of the chakra is laziness and lethargy. The listlessness of waiting for something to happen is quite prevalent here. In some ways, the emotions have been used up to climb through the chakras and the ultimate experience here.
Element: The element of this chakra is air. The air is expelled with the breath. When the life force transforms into a living creature, it begins to inhale and exhale the vital air that it requires to live. This chakra contains the exhaled air. The carbon dioxide is converted into oxygen by green and living things.
Sound: The sound of the chakras is like the bells. It summons the people back into the world where they unite with masses and perform their rituals under the control of those who ring the bells. At present they are quiet and very distant, but soon they become louder and more persistent. The mantra is softly repeated that sound like bells in the distance. The mantra here is YAM that is repeated within the mind.
Animal: The black antelope is the animal of this chakra. It is controlled by a rider who rides it comparatively lightly, for the antelope is a willing steed. It is black in colour but within its ultimate blackness there is every color. The antelope is a strong and swift animal. Here it is under control but it is happy to control as it is aware of the fact that it will be released soon.
Material: The material of the chakra is a red ruby that glows with a beautiful inner light even when it is set in a dark place. The ruby contains the knowledge one has gained while travelling through the chakras. It reminds one that one has a priceless jewel that will illuminate him in the darkest moments of despair. One must hide it within his heart chakra and not let others see For the ruby can in fact be shattered by emotions of jealousy, envy, resentment, and self-doubt. If dulled, the ruby can be insta
ntly rekindled with the love and illumination.
Texture: The texture of the chakra resembles the strong beating of the heart. The muscles work hard to pump blood strongly through the body
Smell: The scent of the chakra is like a deep velvet red rose. It is the essence of selfless love that is untouched by any lustful desire. Here the person receiving the rose needs to recognize it as a symbol of pure, unselfish love. The scent is also very deep and strong.
Taste: The taste of the chakra is like a ripe pineapple. It has a very sweet taste without any bitterness. Once experienced, it can never be forgotten. However the pineapple gives up its sweetness and its fruit in order to protect the future generations of pineapples. It helps other pineapples to grow.
God: The God of this chakra is Isha. He glows with self-confidence and love but it also has some repulsive countenance. At times he also looks dangerous. He has three eyes and the third eye ids kept closed. He has tremendous strength of purpose and is always static. The luster of his love illuminates the chakra. His light is white but it is tinged with the redness of ruby, so that overall it appears as a light orange.
