Buddhism affirms that Rahula was the prince and son of Sakya. Sakya was the name of the author or reviver of Buddhism. Sakya's birth appears to have occurred in the seventh, and death in the sixth century before Christ.
Sakya was the twenty-second of the line of Ikshvaku was contemporary with Ripunjaya, the last of the kings of Magadha. The Buddhists always consider their teacher Sakya to be descended from Ikshvaku.
