There were a number of 6 teams played against each other in the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63, all-coming from the Northern region of India. The teams that participated under the zone included the likes of Delhi, Railways, Services, Southern Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Northern Punjab. All the teams tried their best to get an entry into the knock out level of the tournament and Delhi became the toppers of the zone after all the matches were played.
The match between the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi started the proceedings of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63. The match was held at Srinagar from 23-25 September, 1962 and the match saw the Delhi team winning by a margin of 144 runs to earn the entire 11 points from it. The Jammu & Kashmir team the played against the Services team in the second of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 and the match was held at Srinagar from 28-29 September, 1962. The Services team played nicely in the match and won it by a good margin of an innings and 4 runs to earn 10 points from it. In the next match of the North Zone, the teams of Southern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir clashed with each other at Srinagar from 03-05 October, 1962. The Jammu & Kashmir team lost this match also, as the Southern Punjab team clinched a victory of 8 wickets to earn 11 points from it.
The Railways and Jammu & Kashmir teams played the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 at Srinagar from 08-09 October, 1962. The Railways team showed a wonderful performance in the match and got a huge victory of an innings and 124 runs to earn the entire 11 points from the match. The Jammu & Kashmir team played its last match in the zonal stage against the Northern Punjab team at Srinagar from 13-15 October, 1962. The match saw the Northern Punjab team winning by a huge margin of 10 wickets and also earning 10 points from it.
The teams of Northern Punjab and Southern Punjab played the sixth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63 at Patiala from 01-03 December, 1962. The Northern Punjab team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of 9 wickets for earning 9 valuable points from the match. The next match saw the Delhi and Northern Punjab teams clashing with each other at Delhi from 11-13 December, 1962, where the Delhi team won by 181 runs. The Delhi team also earned the entire 10 points from the match. In the last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1962-63, the teams of Delhi and Southern Punjab played against each other at Delhi from 16-18 December 1962. The Delhi team continued its wonderful form in the previous matches and in this match also and earned 10 points from it, after winning by a huge margin of an innings and 211 runs.
