Bimal RoyHindi films have been entertaining the audiences for ages. Melodramatic scripts, fun filled romances, thought-provoking subjects, excellent performances and soulful music characterize the Hindi films. According to the history of Hindi cinema the very inception of Hindi films began with Dadasaheb Phalke. Today the Hindi film industry, popularly referred as Bollywood, has emerged as one of the biggest filmdom in India.

After Dadasaheb Phalke distinguished directors like Pramatesh Chandra Barua, Bimal Roy, Sohrab Modi, Guru Dutt and others helped the Hindi films to grow. Thinking ahead of their times Bollywood directors like Guru Dutt created cult films. On the other hand Indian cinema has dedicates an entire era to Bollywood personalities such as the Raj Kapoor era. Such classic Hindi films have left an indelible mark on the later filmmakers and the audiences. A discussion of Hindi films remain incomplete without mentioning Devdas, Mother India, Pakeezah, Do Bigha Zameen, Pyaasa and several others.

The subjects of Hindi films are varied. While some of the Hindi films dealt mainly with farcical romances, others drew attention to the contemporary Indian social and political scenario. From costume dramas, comic films, historical romances to action films, there was never any dearth of subjects for the filmmakers of Hindi films. Remakes were also a major part of Bollywood. Films such as Devdas have been made again and again by notable directors. In fact the contemporary Hindi films have also witnessed this trend. Films like Sholay, Karz, Umrao Jaan, Taj Mahal, Don, Parineeta and others have always inspired directors.

Hindi Film Sholay Apart from these there are several landmark films in Hindi that will never go out of fashion. With time the subject matter and the mode of acting has also changed. While earlier the characters were melodramatic the contemporary films stress on spontaneity. In fact natural and effortless acting is more widely appreciated. Over the years the Hindi films have successfully build an identity of their own.

The history of Hindi cinema: The history of Hindi cinema is rich and copious. It dates back to the days when movies were born in India. In those days, Hindi cinema is seen as an unparalleled and inimitable brand of cinema. Hindi cinema was then a complete fictional world where the heroes are handsome and righteous, heroines are ethereally pretty and virtuous and villains are venal and wily.
